Memories in the Rain

After meeting Kisuke Urahara, Ichigo continues carrying out his duties as a Substitute Soul Reaper while adapting to the steady stream of supernatural incidents around Karakura Town. Urahara observes Ichigo's progress from a distance, suggesting that the young Substitute Soul Reaper possesses unusual potential beyond what Rukia initially expected.

The story then shifts to the anniversary of Ichigo's mother Masaki's death. Every year, heavy rain reminds the Kurosaki family of the tragedy that took her life. Haunted by guilt over believing he was responsible for her death, Ichigo encounters the Hollow known as Grand Fisher, the creature that attacked his family years earlier.

Unable to remain emotionally detached, Ichigo challenges Grand Fisher despite the Hollow's ability to manipulate its victims through illusion. During the battle, Ichigo comes to understand that his mother willingly sacrificed herself to save him rather than because of any mistake he made. Although Grand Fisher escapes, Ichigo finds renewed resolve to continue protecting those close to him.

The volume concludes with Urahara becoming more directly involved in Ichigo's development, setting the stage for the next phase of his growth as a Substitute Soul Reaper.
