Mask De Masculine’s onslaught continues as he takes on multiple Soul Reaper captains at once. However, the Sternritter may have met his match when Renji Abarai arrives with powers refined at the Soul King Palace.

Meanwhile, the source of the Quincy king’s strength is revealed, and Rukia Kuchiki confronts the embodiment of fear. The battle forces her to demonstrate the true power of Sode no Shirayuki and overcome an enemy who once brought down her brother.

Mask overwhelms Kensei Muguruma and Rōjūrō Otoribashi, drawing greater strength whenever his supporter James cheers for him. Renji intervenes after completing his Royal Guard training and reveals that Zabimaru had previously concealed the full name of his Bankai. Armed with Sōō Zabimaru, he withstands Mask’s most powerful attacks and destroys both the Sternritter and James.

Jugram Haschwalth explains to Uryū Ishida that fragments of Yhwach’s soul are distributed among those who come into contact with him and return upon their deaths, sustaining the Quincy king. Elsewhere, Rukia confronts Äs Nödt and uses Sode no Shirayuki to lower her body below freezing, rendering herself temporarily immune to fear transmitted through physical contact.

Äs Nödt activates his Vollständig, Tatarforas, and overwhelms Rukia with fear induced through sight. Byakuya Kuchiki arrives but entrusts the victory to his sister, who unveils her Bankai, Hakka no Togame, and freezes Äs Nödt completely. As Rukia recovers, Isane Kotetsu and Yachiru Kusajishi encounter an elusive Sternritter who can erase himself from perception and memory.
