Masaki Kurosaki

Masaki is warm, attentive and fiercely protective. Ichigo remembers that the entire household seemed to revolve around her, not because she demanded attention but because her presence made each family member feel secure.

As a teenager, she is confident enough to tease Ryuken Ishida yet privately anxious about the expectations imposed upon her. She rejects the idea that maintaining Quincy customs should matter more than saving someone in immediate danger. Her response to a spiritual disturbance is to intervene even when Ryuken warns her that a pure-blooded Quincy should not take unnecessary risks.

Masaki’s courage is instinctive rather than reckless. She reads opponents quickly, uses her defensive abilities deliberately and accepts personal danger when it creates a decisive opening.

Masaki is an Echt, or pure-blooded, Quincy with substantial spiritual power. She absorbs reishi rapidly and forms a compact Heilig Bogen resembling a handgun, firing individual or clustered Heilig Pfeil with considerable accuracy.

Her Blut Vene is exceptionally strong. It protects her from normally lethal Hollow attacks and allows her to adopt an unusual close-range strategy against White: she permits the Hollow to bite her shoulder, immobilizing its head long enough to fire an arrow through it.

Masaki also possesses spiritual perception and limited healing ability. Her Quincy power is destabilized after White transfers part of itself into her soul. Isshin’s special Gigai binds his Shinigami power to her condition, suppressing the Hollow influence and allowing her to live as a human.

As a teenager, Masaki is taken into the Ishida household to preserve the family’s pure Quincy bloodline and is expected to marry Ryuken. She instead encounters Isshin during his investigation of White, saves him from the Hollow and becomes infected by its bite.

Urahara devises a method to stabilize her soul, but it requires Isshin to abandon his Shinigami life. Masaki eventually marries him, takes the Kurosaki name and has three children.

Years later, Masaki intervenes when nine-year-old Ichigo follows Grand Fisher’s lure. Yhwach’s Auswählen removes her Quincy power at the moment of the attack, leaving her unable to defend herself as she normally could. She shields Ichigo with her body and is killed. Her death becomes a source of guilt for both Ichigo and Isshin until the circumstances are fully explained.

Isshin Kurosaki — Masaki’s husband, who sacrifices his status and Shinigami power to keep her Hollow infection under control.

Ichigo Kurosaki — Her eldest child, whom she dies protecting and whose hybrid spiritual inheritance reflects both parents.

Karin Kurosaki — Masaki’s younger daughter, who responds to her mother’s death by suppressing her own tears.

Yuzu Kurosaki — Masaki’s younger daughter, who assumes much of the household work after losing her mother.

Ryuken Ishida — Masaki’s childhood housemate and intended husband within the Ishida family’s plan to preserve pure Quincy blood.

Izumi Ishida — Ryuken’s mother and Masaki’s adoptive guardian, who expects her to maintain the family’s Quincy lineage.

Kisuke Urahara — The scientist who develops the only available treatment for Masaki’s Hollowfication.

Yhwach — The Quincy progenitor whose Auswählen strips Masaki’s power shortly before her death.

Grand Fisher — The Hollow whose lure draws Ichigo into danger and whose attack kills Masaki.
