As rain falls over Karakura Town, Isshin Kurosaki confronts a mysterious black Hollow. When a familiar face enters the battle, Isshin needs help to survive the encounter and prevent the creature from claiming another victim.

The events surrounding Ichigo’s parents reveal long-hidden truths about his origins. After learning the history connecting Soul Reapers, Quincies, and Hollows within his family, Ichigo Kurosaki must overcome the shock and accept the full nature of his powers.

Isshin battles the experimental Hollow White in Karakura Town while Sōsuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru, and Kaname Tōsen observe. Masaki Kurosaki intervenes and destroys White, but its bite transfers part of its being into her soul. When Hollowfication threatens to consume her, Kisuke Urahara devises a treatment requiring Isshin to surrender his Soul Reaper powers and remain spiritually connected to Masaki within a specialized Gigai.

Isshin accepts without hesitation, allowing Masaki to live as a human. The two eventually marry and begin their family. Isshin explains that Masaki later lost her Quincy powers through Yhwach’s Auswählen, leaving her unable to defend herself when Grand Fisher attacked. He also reveals that Kanae Katagiri died because of the same selection.

Having learned the truth, Ichigo returns to Ōetsu Nimaiya, where an Asauchi finally accepts him. Nimaiya reveals that White became the foundation of Ichigo’s Zanpakutō, making the inner Hollow his true Soul Reaper power, while the figure Ichigo called Zangetsu is the manifestation of his Quincy abilities. As Nimaiya begins forging Ichigo’s new blade, Yhwach welcomes Uryū Ishida into the Wandenreich.
