Yhwach

Yhwach is authoritarian, calculating and convinced that everything exists for him to take. He addresses the Quincy collectively as his children, but his paternal language does not imply compassion. Soldiers are rewarded while useful and sacrificed when their power can advance his objectives.

His contempt for fear and death grows from his unusual existence. Every soul fragment that returns to him carries the experiences, talents and pain of its bearer, making prolonged separation from others equivalent to losing his senses and bodily functions. His desire to create a world without death is therefore personal as well as ideological, though he pursues it through conquest and mass sacrifice.

Yhwach can be patient when manipulation offers a better result than violence. He conceals information from subordinates, appoints successors for strategic reasons and anticipates betrayal without necessarily preventing it immediately. When challenged, however, he responds with overwhelming force and treats resistance as proof that an opponent has failed to understand his supremacy.

Yhwach possesses spiritual power beyond that of ordinary Sternritter and can overwhelm captain-class Shinigami through direct combat. His Quincy skills include reishi manipulation, Heilig Pfeil, Blut Vene, Blut Arterie and the formation of swords and bows from spiritual matter. He can also steal and wield a sufficiently powerful Bankai.

His innate soul-distribution ability allows him to place fragments of himself within others. By engraving letters onto selected Quincy souls, he grants Schrifts that awaken individual supernatural powers. When those bearers die, their accumulated knowledge and abilities return to him.

Auswählen forcibly draws power and life from selected Quincy, transferring that energy to Yhwach or chosen recipients. He uses it to revive and empower his Schutzstaffel while stripping abandoned Sternritter of their Vollständig, abilities or lives.

The Almighty grants Yhwach perception of possible futures. Once fully active, it also lets him alter futures he has observed, negate threats before they can affect him and rewrite outcomes that would otherwise lead to his defeat. After absorbing the Soul King and Mimihagi, his already immense power expands until his spiritual matter begins consuming and restructuring the worlds.

Yhwach leads the Wandenreich’s invasion of Hueco Mundo and Soul Society, declaring war on the Gotei 13 and ordering the Sternritter to steal captain-class Bankai. During the first invasion, the apparent Yhwach who defeats Kenpachi Zaraki and delays Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto is Royd Lloyd in disguise. The real emperor spends that interval meeting Sosuke Aizen, then returns, steals Zanka no Tachi and kills Yamamoto.

He later names Uryu Ishida as his successor, destabilizing the Sternritter hierarchy while keeping the surviving Quincy under observation. During the assault on the Soul King Palace, he battles Ichibe Hyosube and activates the full power of The Almighty.

Yhwach kills the Soul King, is revealed to be the Soul King’s son and absorbs his father’s remains after Mimihagi intervenes. He attempts to merge the Human World, Soul Society and Hueco Mundo into a single realm without death. Uryu temporarily disrupts his power with the Still Silver arrow, allowing Ichigo to deliver the fatal strike.

Soul King — Yhwach’s father and the divine linchpin of the separated worlds. Yhwach kills and absorbs him while attempting to erase the boundary between life and death.

Ichigo Kurosaki — One of Yhwach’s designated Special War Powers and a descendant of Quincy blood. Yhwach attempts to exploit Ichigo’s heritage and later regards him as the principal obstacle to his new world.

Uryu Ishida — The Quincy whom Yhwach publicly appoints as his successor, partly to control him and expose any disloyalty among the Sternritter.

Jugram Haschwalth — Yhwach’s grandmaster and closest executive. Their powers exchange while Yhwach sleeps, and Haschwalth administers the Wandenreich in his absence.

Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto — Yhwach’s opponent from the war one thousand years earlier and the commander he personally kills during the Wandenreich’s return.

Ichibe Hyosube — The Royal Guard leader who previously negotiated with Yhwach and later attempts to erase his name and power.

Sosuke Aizen — A prisoner whom Yhwach tries to recruit. Aizen refuses and later uses Kyoka Suigetsu to disrupt Yhwach’s perception of the future.
