Inside this volume
Once upon a time, Usopp was simply the village prankster who greeted every morning by shouting that pirates had arrived. Now his home truly stands under attack as the infamous Black Cat Pirates launch their assault. Alongside Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, and Nami, Usopp must discover what it truly means to fight for the people and dreams he cherishes.
The fifth volume of One Piece concludes the Syrup Village Arc, bringing the battle against Captain Kuro to its climax before setting the Straw Hat Pirates on course for their next adventure. It explores the meaning of bravery, the value of friendship, and the first steps toward building a crew capable of surviving the Grand Line.
The battle for Syrup Village reaches its decisive stage as Monkey D. Luffy continues his fierce duel against Kuro, whose speed and ruthless tactics make him the most formidable pirate the Straw Hats have faced so far. Meanwhile, Zoro Roronoa struggles against the Nyaban Brothers, while Usopp refuses to give up despite suffering serious injuries.
As Kuro's carefully planned scheme begins to unravel, Jango attempts to complete the mission by hypnotizing allies and pursuing Kaya. Usopp and his young followers risk everything to protect her, proving that courage is not measured by strength alone. Throughout the conflict, Nami also contributes by protecting Kaya and supporting her companions whenever possible.
Luffy ultimately overcomes Kuro's overwhelming speed and defeats the Black Cat Pirates once and for all. With the village finally safe, Kaya thanks the Straw Hat crew for saving her home and fulfilling the promise Usopp could not accomplish alone.
Following the battle, Usopp decides to leave Syrup Village in pursuit of his own dream. Kaya presents the crew with the Going Merry, allowing the Straw Hat Pirates to continue their voyage with their first true pirate ship and a new crewmate aboard.
