Yosaku

Yosaku is excitable, loyal and quick to dramatize danger. He addresses Zoro as “big brother” and readily places his trust in people connected to him.

He and Johnny often speak or react in unison, sharing both enthusiasm and fear. Yosaku is capable of bravery but recognizes when an opponent is far beyond his ability.

His gratitude is direct and lasting. After Nami identifies and treats his scurvy, Yosaku gives the crew information about the Baratie and accompanies them through subsequent dangers.

Yosaku is an experienced East Blue bounty hunter who carries a large sword. His profession implies competence against minor criminals, though the opponents encountered beside the Straw Hats greatly exceed his usual level.

He possesses basic seafaring knowledge and familiarity with notable East Blue pirates. Yosaku explains Don Krieg’s reputation and helps guide the crew toward the Baratie.

His bout of scurvy results from a prolonged vitamin C deficiency. Nami treats it with lime juice, illustrating her practical knowledge rather than any unusual healing power.

After settling in Cocoyasi Village, Yosaku becomes a successful fisherman with Johnny. Their later appearance shows them hauling a large catch together.

Yosaku and Johnny are resting on a small rock when the Going Merry’s cannon destroys it during target practice. Johnny brings the unconscious Yosaku aboard and initially blames the crew for his condition.

Nami identifies scurvy and quickly treats him. The pair then reunite with Zoro and direct the Straw Hats toward the Baratie, where they become involved in the Krieg Pirates’ attack.

When Nami steals the Going Merry, Yosaku follows with Luffy and Sanji to Cocoyasi Village. He explains that Arlong is a fish-man and warns them about the enemy’s unusual strength.

Yosaku and Johnny stand outside Arlong Park after their own failed challenge, marking the entrance as a boundary until Luffy’s group arrives. They remain in Cocoyasi Village after the battle and later become fishermen.

Johnny is Yosaku’s closest friend, bounty-hunting partner and eventual fishing partner. The two share decisions, information and danger throughout their appearances.

Roronoa Zoro is Yosaku’s former senior colleague and “big brother.” Yosaku admires Zoro’s swordsmanship and trusts his companions because of that association.

Nami cures Yosaku’s scurvy. He later helps pursue her to Cocoyasi Village and learns the circumstances behind her association with Arlong.

Monkey D. Luffy and Sanji travel with Yosaku from the Baratie to Arlong Park. Usopp joins him and Johnny during parts of the village conflict.
