Sanji

サンジ

Story Role

Sanji enters the story at Baratie, where he serves food to Gin despite the pirate’s inability to pay. When Don Krieg attempts to seize the restaurant, Sanji fights alongside Luffy while remaining conflicted between his debt to Zeff and his desire to find the All Blue. Zeff’s farewell finally allows him to leave.

In the East Blue, Sanji becomes one of the crew’s principal fighters and defeats Kuroobi at Arlong Park. His underwater battle demonstrates both tactical adaptability and his willingness to risk drowning to protect Nami’s village.

During the Arabasta journey, Sanji repeatedly operates away from the main group. Under the alias Mr. Prince, he deceives Crocodile, frees his imprisoned companions at Rainbase and later defeats Bon Clay. His independent actions prevent the crew from being eliminated before the central confrontation begins.

In Skypiea, Sanji protects Usopp and Nami while sabotaging Enel’s flying vessel. At Water 7, he boards the Sea Train alone, frees Usopp and Franky and gathers information about Robin’s motives before the crew reaches Enies Lobby.

Sanji’s defeat by Kalifa exposes the practical cost of refusing to strike women. Nami assumes the fight in his place, while Sanji recovers and defeats Jabra with Diable Jambe. He later closes the Gates of Justice, creating turbulent currents that help the crew escape the Buster Call.

At Thriller Bark, Sanji learns that Absalom possesses the invisibility power he once coveted. He defeats Absalom and later attempts to offer his own life to Kuma in place of Luffy’s, but Zoro prevents him from making the sacrifice.

Kuma sends Sanji to the Kamabakka Kingdom during the crew’s separation. He spends two years evading its martial inhabitants, strengthening his legs, learning Sky Walk and acquiring the ninety-nine Vital Recipes.

In the New World, Sanji helps protect the crew at Fish-Man Island, leads part of the group through Punk Hazard and confronts Doflamingo at Dressrosa. He then travels with the group that reaches Zou ahead of Luffy.

Sanji’s birth identity becomes central when his family and the Big Mom Pirates arrange his marriage to Pudding. Threats against Zeff and the Straw Hats compel him to leave voluntarily. He attacks Luffy in an attempt to make his captain abandon him, but Luffy refuses to eat anything except food Sanji personally prepares.

After discovering the planned massacre of his family, Sanji still chooses to save them. The Straw Hats and Fire Tank Pirates disrupt the wedding, while Sanji’s ability to reproduce Streusen’s cake helps stop Big Mom’s hunger rampage and protect Totto Land.

In Wano, Sanji uses the raid suit against Page One and later rescues Momonosuke from execution. His genetic enhancements awaken during his battle with Queen, leading him to destroy the raid suit and develop Ifrit Jambe. His victory contributes to the defeat of the Beasts Pirates and raises his bounty above one billion berries.

At Egghead, Sanji helps protect Vegapunk’s satellites, Bonney and the escaping crew. His speed and durability allow him to intercept high-level attacks during the World Government’s siege.
