Johnny

Johnny is loyal, expressive and prone to abrupt shifts between confidence and panic. He speaks reverently to Zoro but is not ashamed to retreat when facing opponents he cannot defeat.

His anger can run ahead of his judgment. When he believes the Going Merry’s cannon caused Yosaku’s illness, he confronts the crew before learning that the actual cause is scurvy.

Johnny is devoted to his partner and remains beside him through illness, battles and their eventual change of profession. Their shared behavior makes them function as a close pair rather than separate adventurers.

Johnny carries a sword and has enough combat experience to work professionally as a bounty hunter. His demonstrated victories are limited, since the Krieg and Arlong crews are far stronger than his usual targets.

He has practical knowledge of East Blue pirates and their bounties. Alongside Yosaku, he provides context about Don Krieg’s fleet and the fish-men occupying Cocoyasi Village.

Johnny can sail small craft and later develops into a capable fisherman. He and Yosaku are shown successfully working the waters near Cocoyasi Village after retiring from bounty hunting.

He has no confirmed Devil Fruit, Haki or named combat techniques.

Johnny discovers the Going Merry after its cannon destroys the rock on which he and Yosaku are resting. He boards with his unconscious partner and threatens the crew until Nami diagnoses the illness.

After Yosaku recovers, Johnny reunites with Zoro and accompanies the Straw Hats to the Baratie. He witnesses Mihawk’s defeat of Zoro and helps care for him afterward.

Johnny follows Nami when she takes the Going Merry, reaching Cocoyasi Village before Luffy’s group. He and Yosaku confront the Arlong Pirates but are defeated and thrown out of Arlong Park.

The two bounty hunters guard the entrance until Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Usopp arrive. After Arlong’s defeat, Johnny remains in the village and eventually takes up fishing with Yosaku.

Yosaku is Johnny’s closest companion and professional partner. Johnny’s introduction is driven by concern for Yosaku’s illness.

Roronoa Zoro is Johnny’s former associate and respected senior. Johnny witnesses Zoro’s duel with Dracule Mihawk and helps tend his wounds.

Nami treats Yosaku and later becomes the person Johnny pursues after the Going Merry disappears. He learns that her apparent allegiance to Arlong conceals an effort to save her village.

Monkey D. Luffy, Sanji and Usopp become Johnny’s temporary allies during the Baratie and Arlong Park conflicts.
