Jango

Jango is theatrical, absent-minded and easily caught in the effects of his own hypnotism. He often counts “one, two, Jango” to initiate a trance, then watches the pendulum alongside his targets and falls asleep or obeys the same suggestion.

He can be ruthless when following Kuro’s plans. Jango prepares to hypnotize Kaya into signing away her fortune and later attempts to kill her and the Usopp Pirates when the operation begins collapsing.

Outside Kuro’s influence, Jango is sociable and capable of genuine loyalty. His friendship with Fullbody and infatuation with Hina lead him into the Marines, where his eccentric behavior remains but his allegiance changes.

Jango performs hypnosis by swinging a circular blade before a target and giving a verbal command. He can induce sleep, alter memories, implant beliefs or temporarily increase physical strength.

His hypnotism can affect groups, but anyone watching the pendulum may fall under the suggestion—including Jango himself. The strengthened Black Cat Pirates briefly become powerful enough to damage the landscape after receiving his command.

The chakram doubles as a sharp projectile. Jango can throw it accurately enough to cut distant targets and obstacles, making him dangerous even when hypnosis is impractical.

Jango has no confirmed Devil Fruit or Haki. His transition from pirate captain to Marine officer nevertheless indicates competent service and advancement beyond his original recruit rank.

Before the Syrup Village arc, Jango hypnotizes a Marine into believing that Kuro’s substitute is the real captain. The deception allows Kuro to disappear and leaves Jango in charge of the Black Cat Pirates.

Three years later, Jango brings the crew to Syrup Village to complete Kuro’s inheritance plot. He is ordered to hypnotize Kaya into writing a will and then ensure that she dies during the pirate attack.

Jango strengthens the crew through hypnosis but accidentally empowers Monkey D. Luffy as well. He later pursues Kaya and the Usopp Pirates into the forest before Roronoa Zoro and Usopp defeat him.

In his cover story, Jango befriends Fullbody at a dance contest and is arrested. Fullbody appeals for clemency, after which Jango enlists as a low-ranking Marine. He later rises to lieutenant commander and serves under Hina, including during the Arabasta pursuit and Summit War.

Kuro is Jango’s former captain and the architect of the Syrup Village conspiracy. Jango fears him and follows his orders even after inheriting command of the crew.

Fullbody becomes Jango’s closest friend after the two bond through dancing. Fullbody sacrifices his own rank to help Jango avoid execution and joins him under Hina.

Hina is Jango’s commanding officer and the object of his infatuation. He and Fullbody compete for her attention while obeying her orders.

Kaya is Jango’s intended hypnosis target, while Usopp and the Usopp Pirates repeatedly prevent him from reaching her. Roronoa Zoro defeats Jango in the forest, and Monkey D. Luffy disrupts the attack after being accidentally strengthened by his hypnosis.
