The battle approaches its climax as Sōsuke Aizen enters the fighting and confronts several of Soul Society’s greatest captains. Their combined strength and carefully coordinated attacks may offer the defenders their best opportunity to defeat him.

Captain-General Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto also reveals the overwhelming power of Ryūjin Jakka, but Aizen has prepared a specialized countermeasure capable of neutralizing even the strongest Zanpakutō in Soul Society.

Ichigo Kurosaki arrives in the replica of Karakura Town and attacks Aizen before he can activate Kyōka Suigetsu. The remaining captains and Visoreds support him, combining their Zanpakutō abilities to create an opening. Aizen nevertheless withstands their coordinated assault and manipulates Tōshirō Hitsugaya into striking what appears to be his body. Ichigo’s horrified reaction reveals that the combatants have been deceived by complete hypnosis and that Hitsugaya has instead impaled Momo Hinamori.

After incapacitating several of his opponents, Aizen confronts Yamamoto. The Captain-General allows himself to be stabbed so that he can identify Aizen’s spiritual pressure and restrain him directly. Yamamoto prepares to destroy them both with Ennetsu Jigoku, but Wonderweiss Margela intervenes and reveals Extinguir, a Resurrección specifically engineered to seal Ryūjin Jakka’s flames.

Yamamoto defeats Wonderweiss with his bare hands, only to learn that the Arrancar’s body has stored all the fire he extinguished. The Captain-General shields the surrounding battlefield from the resulting explosion and suffers severe injuries. Even while wounded, he uses Hadō #96, Ittō Kasō, against Aizen, creating an opportunity for Ichigo to strike.
