Old friends turn against one another as Kaname Tōsen and Sajin Komamura battle over the ideals that once united them. Tōsen’s new powers threaten to overwhelm the Soul Reapers, while Shūhei Hisagi is forced to confront the former captain he once admired.

Elsewhere, Shinji Hirako reveals the disorienting power of his Zanpakutō in an attempt to turn the battle against Sōsuke Aizen. In Hueco Mundo, Ichigo Kurosaki reunites with his companions before being sent toward the decisive confrontation in Karakura Town.

Ichigo reaches Rukia Kuchiki, Renji Abarai, and Yasutora Sado, but his attempt to defeat Yammy Llargo is complicated by his unstable Hollow mask. Byakuya Kuchiki and Kenpachi Zaraki take over the battle, allowing Retsu Unohana to escort Ichigo toward Karakura Town. During their journey, she explains that Ichigo is uniquely valuable because he has never witnessed Aizen’s Shikai and therefore remains unaffected by its complete hypnosis.

In the replica of Karakura Town, Shinji releases Sakanade against Aizen, reversing his opponent’s perception of direction. Aizen quickly adapts, however, and wounds him. Nearby, Tōsen reveals that he willingly underwent Hollowfication and overwhelms Komamura’s Bankai before entering his Resurrección, Suzumushi Hyakushiki: Grillar Grillo.

Tōsen’s transformation grants him sight for the first time, but his excitement leaves him vulnerable. Hisagi impales his former captain through the head with Kazeshini, allowing Komamura to strike him down. Mortally wounded, Tōsen begins reconsidering the path that separated him from his friends, only for Aizen to destroy his body before he can fully reconcile with them.
