Inside this volume
One Piece Vol. 9: Tears continues the Arlong Park storyline as Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates uncover the truth behind Nami's connection to the Fish-Man Pirates. As the crew witnesses the suffering endured by Nami and her home village under the rule of Arlong, they prepare to confront one of the greatest threats they have faced so far.
The volume explores Nami's past, the bonds she shares with her family and friends, and the determination of the Straw Hat Pirates to fight for those they care about. It concludes with the beginning of the decisive battle for Arlong Park.
Quick Facts
Upon arriving at Cocoyasi Village, Monkey D. Luffy, Zoro Roronoa, Usopp, and Sanji discover that Nami has long been associated with Arlong and his Fish-Man Pirates. The villagers initially appear hostile toward the pirates' influence, while Nojiko reveals the hardships Nami has endured over the years.
The story recounts Nami's childhood, showing how she and Nojiko were adopted and raised by Bellemere. After Arlong seized control of the islands, Bell-mère refused to deny her daughters, leading to a tragedy that shaped Nami's life. Forced into serving Arlong, Nami dedicated herself to earning enough money to buy the freedom of her village.
After Arlong betrays their agreement and the villagers prepare to launch a hopeless attack, Nami finally breaks down in despair. In one of the series' defining moments, she asks Luffy for help, and he silently places his treasured straw hat on her head before leading the Straw Hat Pirates toward Arlong Park.
The volume concludes as the battle for Arlong Park begins, with each member of the crew confronting the Fish-Man Pirates while Luffy heads directly toward Arlong.
