Kuroobi

Kuroobi is stoic, ruthless, and strongly committed to fish-man supremacy. He approaches combat with greater discipline than Chew or Hatchan and rarely allows humor or confusion to distract him from an objective.

He is suspicious of Nami’s loyalty and questions whether a human can truly belong among the Arlong Pirates. This hostility reflects both his prejudice and his awareness that coercion, rather than trust, binds her to the crew.

Kuroobi takes pride in his martial-arts rank and in the natural advantages fish-men possess underwater. That pride becomes arrogance when he interprets environmental superiority as proof that a human opponent cannot threaten him under other conditions.

Kuroobi is a 40th-dan practitioner of Fish-Man Karate. His techniques use powerful punches, open-hand strikes, and attacks directed at vulnerable parts of the body. His natural fish-man strength makes these blows substantially more destructive than comparable human martial arts.

Underwater, Kuroobi gains superior speed, freedom of movement, and the ability to exploit a human opponent’s need for air. He can launch compressed water attacks and drag enemies into an environment where their movements become slow and exhausting.

He is also highly durable, withstanding numerous kicks from Sanji. Once their fight moves onto land, however, Sanji’s speed and striking power overwhelm him, culminating in a decisive finishing combination.

Kuroobi serves under Fisher Tiger as a member of the Sun Pirates before joining Arlong’s breakaway crew. In the East Blue, he helps enforce the occupation of the Conomi Islands and personally wounds Genzo when the villagers resist Arlong’s takeover.

During the battle at Arlong Park, Kuroobi intercepts Sanji as he attempts to reach the submerged Luffy. Their confrontation moves underwater, where Kuroobi uses his natural advantage to injure and nearly suffocate him.

Sanji escapes by exploiting the sensitivity of Kuroobi’s gills and returns the battle to land. There he defeats Kuroobi, removing one of Arlong’s strongest officers and clearing the way for the rescue of Luffy.

Arlong is Kuroobi’s captain and ideological leader. Kuroobi supports Arlong’s rule, distrusts human cooperation, and acts as one of his most dependable enforcers.

Fisher Tiger was Kuroobi’s earlier captain in the Sun Pirates. Jinbei was another senior member of that crew before its fragmentation.

Chew and Hatchan are Kuroobi’s fellow officers under Arlong. Genzo is one of the civilians Kuroobi injures during the conquest of Cocoyasi Village.

Sanji is Kuroobi’s principal opponent at Arlong Park. Kuroobi nearly defeats Sanji underwater, but Sanji reverses the advantage and defeats him after reaching land.
