Ichigo Kurosaki continues training to master Fullbring and recover the Soul Reaper powers he lost. As his new ability nears completion, however, Kūgo Ginjō makes a startling move that raises new doubts about whether he can truly be trusted.

Ichigo soon discovers that the danger surrounding him extends beyond direct attacks. With his relationships and memories under threat, he must determine whom he can still trust before everything connecting him to his friends and family is taken away.

Ichigo completes his Fullbring while training against Ginjō, developing armor-like energy around his body and regaining the ability to perform Getsuga Tenshō. Although he notices unusual aggression in his opponent, Ginjō attributes his behavior to the influence of Shūkurō Tsukishima. Ichigo returns home after finishing his training, only to find Tsukishima welcomed as a longtime friend by his sisters and nearly everyone else he trusts.

After fleeing his altered friends, Ichigo joins Ginjō in confronting Tsukishima at his mansion. Yasutora Sado and Orihime Inoue, whose memories have also been rewritten, defend Tsukishima and attack Ichigo. Ginjō appears to remain his sole ally until Tsukishima strikes him with Book of the End.

Uryū Ishida then arrives and identifies Ginjō as his true attacker. Ginjō reveals that Tsukishima’s latest strike merely restored memories that had deliberately been altered as part of Xcution’s deception. He steals Ichigo’s completed Fullbring, leaving him powerless and emotionally devastated. Immediately afterward, Rukia Kuchiki appears and pierces Ichigo with a sword charged with Soul Reaper energy.
