The battle between the Soul Reapers and Sōsuke Aizen over the fate of Karakura Town continues as additional warriors enter the conflict. With the strongest Espada and their Fracción now taking the field, the defenders are forced into increasingly dangerous confrontations.

When Captain-General Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto personally intervenes, his overwhelming power may offer a swift answer to the threat posed by Aizen’s forces. The Arrancar army, however, possesses a monstrous weapon capable of placing several Soul Reapers in immediate danger.

Soi Fon completes her battle with Ggio Vega, having concealed her true speed so that she could study his abilities before killing him with Nigeki Kessatsu. With his remaining Fracción defeated, Baraggan Louisenbairn enters the battle himself and reveals his position as the Segunda Espada. Elsewhere, Rangiku Matsumoto struggles against Emilou Apacci, Franceska Mila Rose, and Cyan Sung-Sun until Momo Hinamori arrives to support her.

The three Arrancar sacrifice their left arms to create Ayon, a gigantic chimeric Hollow whose power overwhelms Rangiku, Momo, Shūhei Hisagi, and Tetsuzaemon Iba. Yamamoto intervenes, destroying Ayon and then incinerating its creators when they attack him in anger.

The highest-ranked Espada subsequently reveal their positions. Tier Harribel identifies herself as the Tercera Espada while battling Tōshirō Hitsugaya, and Coyote Starrk confirms his status as the Primera Espada during his confrontation with Shunsui Kyōraku. In Hueco Mundo, Ichigo Kurosaki resumes his fight with Ulquiorra Cifer.
