The battle in the Soul Society is over, but the danger facing Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends has only begun. After returning to the World of the Living, Ichigo attempts to resume his ordinary life while coping with the consequences of Sōsuke Aizen’s betrayal and the growing influence of the Hollow within him.

A mysterious new student soon approaches Ichigo with knowledge of his hidden condition. Meanwhile, Uryū Ishida confronts the loss of his Quincy powers, and an unexpected battle reveals that someone close to Ichigo has concealed a remarkable secret.

In the aftermath of Aizen’s escape, the Soul Society treats Ichigo and his companions as allies rather than criminals. Rukia Kuchiki remains behind, while Ichigo, Uryū, Orihime Inoue, and Yasutora Sado return to Karakura Town. Before their departure, Rukia learns that Byakuya Kuchiki adopted her to honor the dying wish of his wife, Hisana, despite having previously vowed never to break the laws of the Kuchiki family again.

Ichigo resumes school but remains troubled by the inner Hollow that seized control during his battle with Byakuya. A newly transferred student, Shinji Hirako, reveals that he possesses both Soul Reaper and Hollow powers and invites Ichigo to join the Visored. Ichigo rejects the offer but realizes that Shinji understands the dangerous transformation occurring within him.

Elsewhere, the Arrancar Grand Fisher returns to Karakura Town and attacks Kon while occupying Ichigo’s body. Isshin Kurosaki intervenes, revealing himself to be a Soul Reaper and defeating Grand Fisher. Uryū is subsequently approached by his father, Ryūken Ishida, who offers to restore his lost Quincy powers on the condition that he permanently abandon his association with Soul Reapers.
