Quick Facts
The Straw Hat Pirates successfully enter the Grand Line by crossing Reverse Mountain, where they accidentally collide with the enormous whale Laboon. Inside the whale, they meet the mysterious lighthouse keeper Crocus, who explains Laboon's decades-long vigil for a pirate crew that promised to return. Refusing to let the whale continue harming itself, Monkey D. Luffy challenges Laboon before promising to return after sailing around the world, giving the whale a new reason to wait.
The crew soon encounters Miss Wednesday, Mr. 9, and the secretive criminal organization Baroque Works. After arriving at Whiskey Peak, the Straw Hats are welcomed with an extravagant celebration by the town's seemingly friendly residents. The festivities, however, conceal a trap orchestrated by the bounty hunters who inhabit the town.
While the rest of the crew sleeps, Roronoa Zoro uncovers the town's true nature and single-handedly confronts dozens of Baroque Works agents. His actions lead to a misunderstanding with Luffy, resulting in the first serious clash between the captain and his swordsman before the true circumstances come to light.
The volume concludes as the identities and ambitions of several Baroque Works agents begin to emerge, laying the groundwork for the crew's first major conflict within the Grand Line.
