Quick Facts
Following the defeat of Arlong, the Marines officially recognize Monkey D. Luffy as a major pirate by issuing his first bounty. The news spreads rapidly throughout the East Blue, reaching friends, allies, rivals, and members of Luffy's family, while Captain Smoker becomes determined to capture the rising pirate before he can enter the Grand Line.
The Straw Hat Pirates arrive in Loguetown, the birthplace and execution site of the Pirate King, Roger Gold. Each crew member explores the town to prepare for the journey ahead, while Luffy visits the execution platform where Roger delivered his legendary final words. There, he encounters Buggy, who seeks revenge, and Alvida, whose appearance has changed dramatically after obtaining a Devil Fruit power.
As Buggy attempts to execute Luffy in the very place where Roger died, an unexpected bolt of lightning interrupts the execution. Amid the ensuing chaos, Smoker pursues the Straw Hats through the streets of Loguetown, using his Smoke-Smoke Fruit powers to corner Luffy before a mysterious stranger intervenes, allowing the crew to escape.
The volume concludes with the Straw Hat Pirates leaving the East Blue and setting sail for Reverse Mountain, marking the beginning of their long-awaited journey toward the Grand Line.
