Crocus

Crocus is calm, perceptive, and fond of presenting serious situations with deliberately peculiar timing. His deadpan exchanges can make him appear eccentric, but he quickly demonstrates sound judgment when lives are at risk.

He is deeply compassionate toward Laboon. Crocus initially tells the whale that the Rumbar Pirates abandoned the Grand Line because he hopes the painful explanation will stop Laboon from endangering himself. When that fails, he continues treating the whale for decades rather than leaving him to his injuries.

Crocus remains cautious about the Grand Line’s dangers without discouraging people who have chosen to face them. He explains its navigational rules to the inexperienced Straw Hats and gives them practical help after seeing the sincerity of Luffy’s promise.

Crocus is an accomplished physician capable of treating both humans and enormous marine animals. He developed medicine that slowed Gol D. Roger’s terminal illness, allowing Roger to survive long enough to complete his final voyage. His treatment could not cure the disease, but it managed a condition no other doctor had been able to control sufficiently.

He has converted portions of Laboon’s interior into a navigable medical environment, complete with tunnels, treatment access, and painted surfaces designed to resemble an outdoor landscape. He also uses sedatives to restrain the whale during destructive episodes.

Despite his age, Crocus possesses substantial durability and composure. He places himself between Laboon and incoming explosives without hesitation and survives the resulting attack. His years aboard the Oro Jackson also gave him extensive knowledge of Grand Line navigation and its hazards.

Crocus first meets the Straw Hats after Laboon swallows the Going Merry. He explains the function of the Log Pose, the structure of the Grand Line, and Laboon’s history. When Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday fire into the whale’s stomach, Crocus shields Laboon with his body.

Luffy’s promise to return for a rematch gives Laboon new hope, much to Crocus’s relief. Crocus subsequently supplies the Straw Hats with a Log Pose, enabling them to begin their journey along the Grand Line.

Crocus’s past as the Roger Pirates’ doctor is revealed much later. He joined their final voyage specifically to search for the Rumbar Pirates and to manage Roger’s illness, remaining aboard through the discovery of Laugh Tale and the crew’s dissolution.

Laboon is Crocus’s patient and closest companion at Twin Cape. Crocus devotes decades to protecting Laboon and preserving his health while he waits for the Rumbar Pirates.

Gol D. Roger was Crocus’s captain during the Roger Pirates’ final voyage. Crocus controlled Gol D. Roger’s illness well enough for him to complete the journey around the Grand Line.

Silvers Rayleigh, Scopper Gaban, and the other Roger Pirates were Crocus’s crewmates. His medical work and knowledge made him essential to their last expedition.

Monkey D. Luffy earns Crocus’s respect by replacing Laboon’s destructive vigil with a promise of reunion. Crocus helps Monkey D. Luffy and his crew begin navigating the Grand Line.

Mr. 9 and Nefertari Vivi endanger Crocus’s patient while hunting for Baroque Works. Crocus willingly takes their cannon fire to protect Laboon.
