The Blade and Me

Ichigo Kurosaki remains chained within the deep training shaft beneath Urahara Shop while his severed Chain of Fate gradually consumes itself. Urahara explains that Ichigo must rediscover the Soul Reaper power hidden within his soul before the encroachment reaches his chest. As the transformation advances, Ichigo enters his inner world and encounters a mysterious man who challenges him to identify the source of his own spiritual strength.

Ichigo locates the power concealed within his soul and escapes the shaft just before completing his transformation into a Hollow. Although he emerges wearing a Hollow mask, he breaks it away and reveals that he has regained his own Soul Reaper powers rather than the abilities previously borrowed from Rukia. Urahara then begins the final stage of the training, ordering Ichigo to knock the hat from his head while both men wield real weapons.

Ichigo initially struggles because his newly formed sword remains incomplete. Returning to his inner world, he confronts the mysterious man again and learns that the ability to hear and trust his weapon is essential to wielding it properly. Ichigo finally learns the name of his Zanpakutō, Zangetsu, and releases its true form. Armed with the enormous blade, he overwhelms Urahara’s defenses and completes the training by knocking off his hat.

With the rescue mission approaching, Orihime Inoue, Yasutora Sado, and Uryuu Ishida complete their own preparations. The group gathers at Urahara Shop, where Urahara opens a temporary Senkaimon connecting the Human World to Soul Society. Accompanied by Yoruichi Shihouin, who remains in the form of a black cat, Ichigo and his companions enter the dangerous passage between worlds.
