Ichigo Kurosaki, Yasutora Sado, and Uryū Ishida are determined to rescue Orihime Inoue from Sōsuke Aizen’s schemes. Although the Arrancars’ fortress is within sight, the would-be rescuers must first cross the hostile deserts of Hueco Mundo and overcome the guardians blocking their path.

Their journey eventually leads them into Tres Cifras, the domain of Arrancar who have been stripped of their former positions among the Espada. These disgraced warriors view defeating Ichigo and his companions as an opportunity to reclaim their honor.

After entering Hueco Mundo, Ichigo, Chad, and Uryū emerge beneath its endless night sky and begin searching for Las Noches. They encounter a childlike Arrancar named Nel Tu, along with her companions Pesche Guatiche and Dondochakka Birstanne. Despite an initially chaotic meeting, the group guides the rescuers through the desert and helps them survive an attack by the sand Hollow Runuganga.

Upon reaching Las Noches, Ichigo’s party discovers that the immense fortress is protected by powerful Arrancar. The guardians Demoura Zodd and Aisslinger Wernarr attempt to prevent them from entering, but Chad and Uryū defeat the pair while demonstrating the results of their recent training. Inside the fortress, the group reaches a chamber where five separate passageways force them to divide.

Ichigo proceeds with Nel and soon encounters Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio, a Privaron Espada seeking to prove that he deserves restoration to the Espada ranks. Dordoni immediately pressures Ichigo to reveal his true strength, beginning the first major duel within Las Noches.
