Luffy's daring prison break erupts into open rebellion as inmates from every level of Impel Down unite in a desperate bid for freedom. With Ace already on his way to Marineford, every moment counts, forcing unlikely allies to fight side by side against the prison's overwhelming defenses while a new threat emerges from within.
Having recovered from Ivankov's treatment, Monkey D. Luffy leads a mass escape from Impel Down alongside an alliance of former enemies that includes Buggy, Bentham, Emporio Ivankov, Inazuma, Jinbe, and Galdino. As they battle through the prison's upper levels, Marshall D. Teach and his crew infiltrate Impel Down with plans of their own, throwing the prison into further chaos.
Despite relentless pursuit by Magellan, the escapees seize a Marine battleship and race toward the Gates of Justice. In a final act of self-sacrifice, Bon Clay remains behind to open the gates, allowing Luffy and the other prisoners to escape while he faces Magellan alone. His farewell becomes one of the defining moments of the Impel Down incident.
As the escaped prisoners sail toward Marineford, the focus shifts to the impending war. Fleet Admiral Sengoku publicly reveals that Ace is the son of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, sending shockwaves throughout the world. At the same time, Edward Newgate and the Whitebeard Pirates arrive before Marineford, marking the beginning of the Summit War.
