Galdino

Galdino is calculating, vain, and convinced of his intellectual superiority. He takes pride in defeating physically stronger targets through preparation, regarding an unfair victory as proof of strategic ability rather than cowardice. His wax sculptures also reveal a meticulous artistic streak.

His composure deteriorates when a plan fails or an opponent breaks free. Galdino readily abandons allies to preserve himself and attempts to evade punishment after disappointing Baroque Works. Although he presents himself as rational, fear and wounded pride frequently control his decisions.

During the Impel Down escape, Galdino develops a stronger sense of loyalty. He risks his life against Magellan to repay Luffy, mourns Bentham’s apparent sacrifice, and infiltrates Ace’s execution platform to honor Bentham’s wish that Ace be saved.

Galdino ate the Doru Doru no Mi, a Paramecia-class Devil Fruit that allows him to create and manipulate candle wax. He cannot transform his body into wax, but he can produce large quantities and shape them into keys, restraints, weapons, walls, armor, buildings, and detailed replicas.

Once hardened, his wax can become as strong as steel. He uses it to immobilize limbs, encase entire bodies, protect himself with defensive barriers, and create numerous wax doubles that conceal his location. His Candle Champion encloses him in a large wax combat suit, substantially increasing his reach and protection.

Wax melts under sustained heat or flame, giving the power a clear weakness. It is nevertheless resistant to poison and digestive acids, qualities that later make Galdino unusually effective against hazardous substances. His tactical awareness remains his greatest asset: he routinely uses disguises, false bodies, sabotage, and environmental traps to compensate for limited physical courage.

Galdino and Marianne, known as Miss Goldenweek, travel to Little Garden under orders from Crocodile. Galdino intends to claim the bounties of Dorry and Brogy, but he knows he cannot defeat either giant directly. He therefore has Gem place explosives in Dorry’s drink, corrupting the giants’ century-long duel.

Galdino captures Brogy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, and Nefertari Vivi in his Candle Service, which gradually coats its victims in wax. Monkey D. Luffy, Usopp, and Carue disrupt the execution, and Luffy defeats Galdino after overcoming Marianne’s emotional manipulation.

Galdino later reaches Arabasta, where Crocodile punishes him for his failure by feeding him to a Bananawani. He survives and creates the key that helps Sanji free the captives in Rain Dinners. After being imprisoned in Impel Down, he escapes alongside Luffy and Buggy, helps resist Magellan, and attempts to free Portgas D. Ace at Marineford. He subsequently joins Buggy’s organization, which eventually becomes part of Cross Guild.

Marianne is Galdino’s Baroque Works partner. Her Color Traps complement Galdino’s wax creations, and her later rescue operation is motivated partly by a desire to recover former colleagues.

Crocodile employs Galdino but considers his position undeserved, believing that superior intelligence is the only reason he ranks above the physically stronger Mr. 4. Crocodile attempts to execute Galdino after his failure on Little Garden.

Dorry and Brogy are Galdino’s intended bounty targets. Galdino sabotages their honorable duel because he cannot defeat either giant fairly.

Monkey D. Luffy first defeats Galdino and later becomes his reluctant ally. Galdino’s wax proves vital when Monkey D. Luffy confronts Magellan.

Buggy collaborates with Galdino during the Impel Down escape and later becomes the public leader of the organization Galdino joins. Bentham’s sacrifice deeply affects Galdino and motivates his effort to save Portgas D. Ace.
