Seventeen months after his battle with Sōsuke Aizen, Ichigo Kurosaki has lost his Soul Reaper powers and settled into a quiet life as a high school student. That peace is disrupted when a mysterious man approaches him with unsettling knowledge about his family and vanished abilities.

As spiritually empowered humans begin targeting Ichigo’s friends, his inability to perceive or confront the danger leaves him increasingly isolated. Seeking answers and the strength to protect those around him, Ichigo follows the stranger into the hidden world of Xcution.

Seventeen months after losing his Soul Reaper powers, Ichigo has adjusted to an ordinary life as a third-year student. He retains the physical conditioning and combat instincts developed during his previous battles, but can no longer see spirits. While working part-time for Ikumi Unagiya, he encounters Kūgo Ginjō, a mysterious man who possesses detailed information about Ichigo and begins questioning him about his family.

The situation becomes more threatening when Uryū Ishida is severely injured by a human possessing spiritual abilities. Orihime Inoue and Yasutora Sado conceal information from Ichigo, believing his powerlessness prevents him from becoming involved. Their secrecy only deepens his frustration and fear that he can no longer protect the people closest to him.

After encountering Shūkurō Tsukishima, the apparent attacker, Ichigo contacts Ginjō and follows him to Xcution’s headquarters. There he meets several spiritually aware humans known as Fullbringers. Ginjō explains that Fullbring allows them to manipulate the souls contained within physical matter, opening a possible path toward recovering Ichigo’s lost abilities.
