After defeating Caesar Clown and forming an alliance with Trafalgar Law, the Straw Hat Pirates arrive in Dressrosa, the kingdom ruled by Donquixote Doflamingo. Their mission is to destroy the factory producing artificial Devil Fruits, but the island's living toys, hidden inhabitants, and powerful defenders quickly complicate the plan.
When Monkey D. Luffy learns that the Flame-Flame Fruit once possessed by his brother is being offered as the prize in a gladiatorial tournament, he enters the Corrida Coliseum under an assumed identity. To reclaim the fruit, he must survive a competition filled with notorious pirates, warriors, criminals, and champions from across the New World.
The Straw Hat–Heart Pirate alliance reaches Dressrosa and divides into teams tasked with returning Caesar Clown, locating the SMILE factory, and protecting the Thousand Sunny. Their plans immediately unravel: Roronoa Zoro's sword is stolen by a tiny unseen thief, Sanji follows the dancer Violet, and Luffy enters the Corrida Coliseum as “Lucy” after discovering that Ace's Flame-Flame Fruit is the tournament prize.
Inside the coliseum, Luffy meets renowned fighters including Cavendish, Rebecca, and the returning Bellamy. The tournament is divided into four battle-royale blocks, with Jesus Burgess winning Block A. Block B becomes a clash among martial artists, criminals, royalty, and pirates, ending when the despised rookie Bartolomeo defeats the remaining competitors with his barrier powers.
Meanwhile, Law, Nico Robin, and Usopp travel to Greenbit for the planned exchange. Robin and Usopp are captured by the Tontatta people, while Law learns that Doflamingo's resignation was fraudulent and that Admiral Fujitora has arrived to confront him.
