Bellamy

Bellamy initially treats dreams as delusions left behind by a more practical age of piracy. Arrogant and violent, he targets people he considers weaker than himself and equates cruelty with sophistication. His “Hyena” epithet fits both his broad grin and his habit of taking treasure from other pirates.

Defeat and a journey to Skypiea change his outlook. Bellamy no longer mocks the existence of sky islands and develops sincere respect for Luffy, but his loyalty to Doflamingo remains painfully rigid. He would rather accept death than admit that the man he idolized never valued him.

By the end of the Dressrosa conflict, Bellamy has rejected Doflamingo without transferring unquestioning allegiance to Luffy. He accepts a fragment of Luffy’s Vivre Card while declining to become his subordinate, suggesting a desire to choose his own path.

The Paramecia-type Bane Bane no Mi allows Bellamy to transform his limbs into springs. He most often coils his legs to launch himself between buildings and other surfaces, building momentum before delivering a high-speed punch. Spring Hopper turns an enclosed area into a network of rebound points, while Spring Snipe directs that accumulated force into a concentrated strike.

Bellamy is physically strong, durable and capable of Armament Haki after the two-year interval. His bounty rises from 55,000,000 to 195,000,000 berries, reflecting his increased experience and the danger attributed to him.

His powers are most effective where solid surfaces allow repeated ricochets. The same movement can become predictable against an opponent able to follow his trajectory, as demonstrated during both of his battles with Luffy.

On Jaya, Bellamy represents the pirates who dismiss the romance of exploration. He assaults Mont Blanc Cricket’s group and steals their gold, prompting Luffy to defeat him with a single punch. Doflamingo subsequently punishes Bellamy for disgracing his symbol and destroys the original Bellamy Pirates as a functioning crew.

Bellamy later reaches Skypiea and brings back a golden pillar. In Dressrosa, he enters the Corrida Colosseum tournament in hopes of becoming an officer in the Donquixote Pirates. Doflamingo secretly orders Bartolomeo D. Gambia to kill him, then later uses Bellamy as a puppet against Luffy.

Bellamy insists on completing his final fight with Luffy despite recognizing Doflamingo’s betrayal. Luffy defeats him a second time, now with visible reluctance. After Doflamingo’s fall, Bellamy retires from piracy and studies dyeing in a town famous for producing indestructible cloth.

Bellamy idolizes Doflamingo and uses his emblem as proof that he belongs to the coming age. Doflamingo regards him as expendable, repeatedly humiliating him and eventually ordering his death. Bellamy’s refusal to abandon that loyalty becomes the central conflict of his return.

Luffy is first an object of Bellamy’s contempt, then the man whose strength and conviction force him to reconsider his beliefs. Bellamy respects Luffy after visiting Skypiea, but he refuses rescue during their final confrontation because he wants to settle the consequences of his own choices.

Sarquiss serves as Bellamy’s first mate on Jaya and shares his disdain for dreamers. Bartolomeo, despite competing against him in the colosseum, refuses to carry out Doflamingo’s assassination order. Bellamy later accepts a piece of Luffy’s Vivre Card from the Straw Hat Grand Fleet while declining formal membership.
