The Straw Hats continue their exploration of Thriller Bark, where Moria Gecko uses stolen shadows to animate a vast army of zombies. After several crew members lose their shadows, the pirates must recover them before sunrise or be destroyed by the daylight.
Meanwhile, Moria places Monkey D. Luffy's shadow inside an enormous corpse, creating a zombie of extraordinary strength. As the crew becomes separated across the island, each member faces the monsters and commanders guarding Moria's stronghold.
The Straw Hats are scattered across Thriller Bark as Moria's forces begin stealing their shadows. Brook explains that a zombie inherits the personality and fighting abilities of the shadow placed inside it, while the original owner becomes unable to survive in direct sunlight. Moria removes Luffy's shadow and implants it into the massive corpse known as Oars, intending to create the strongest zombie in his army.
Nami is abducted by Absalom, who plans to marry her in a forced ceremony. Sanji pursues them and reveals that he once dreamed of obtaining the Clear-Clear Fruit, the power Absalom now possesses. Elsewhere, Usopp confronts Perona, whose Negative Hollows overwhelm opponents by stripping away their confidence. Usopp proves immune because of his naturally pessimistic personality and begins turning the battle against her.
Franky and Robin Nico fight their way through the mansion, while Tony Tony Chopper confronts Doctor Hogback over his exploitation of corpses. Oars awakens with Luffy's personality and tremendous physical power, placing the entire crew in danger as dawn approaches.
