Luffy and Usopp struggle to find a way to repair the Going Merry, but the situation worsens when Usopp is attacked and the money reserved for the ship is stolen. Faced with the vessel's irreversible damage, Monkey D. Luffy must make his most difficult decision as captain. Meanwhile, Robin Nico remains missing, and new dangers begin closing in on the crew.
After the Franky Family steals the Straw Hats' money, Usopp attempts to recover it alone and is severely beaten. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Sanji, and Tony Tony Chopper retaliate by destroying the Franky House, but their stolen funds have already been taken by Franky. At the same time, Luffy accepts the shipwrights' conclusion that the Going Merry cannot be repaired and decides that the crew must acquire a new vessel.
Unable to accept abandoning the ship, Usopp challenges Luffy's authority and leaves the crew. He then fights Luffy for ownership of the Going Merry, using his knowledge of the captain's abilities to mount a determined resistance. Luffy ultimately wins and leaves the damaged ship in Usopp's care, while the remaining Straw Hats confront the emotional consequences of the separation.
The following morning, Galley-La president Iceburg is found critically wounded after an attack inside his mansion. Witness testimony identifies Robin as one of the assailants, turning Water Seven against the Straw Hats. As Luffy searches for answers, he clashes with Franky, whose followers blame the crew for destroying their headquarters.
