Before the Straw Hats can get the Merry Go fixed, they must finish their Davy Back Fight against the Foxy Pirates. Victory remains uncertain, and losing the final challenge could cost them a valued member of their crew. Their situation becomes even more dangerous when Admiral Aokiji, who knows about Robin Nico's mysterious past, appears before them.
Monkey D. Luffy defeats Foxy in the final round of the Davy Back Fight and restores the Straw Hats' honor. Soon afterward, the crew encounters Marine Admiral Kuzan, better known as Aokiji, who reveals his connection to Robin's past and warns that her presence may eventually destroy the crew. When Luffy challenges him alone, Aokiji demonstrates the overwhelming power of the Ice-Ice Fruit but ultimately allows the pirates to continue their voyage.
The Straw Hats meet Kokoro, who directs them toward Water Seven and the Galley-La Company. Upon reaching the waterborne city, the crew separates to exchange its Skypiean gold, purchase supplies, and arrange repairs for the Going Merry. Robin disappears after encountering a masked stranger, while bounty hunters belonging to the Franky Family attack the ship and begin pursuing the crew's newly acquired money.
At Galley-La's Dock No. 1, Luffy, Nami, and Usopp meet the company's president, Iceburg, and several of its leading shipwrights. After examining the Going Merry, Kaku delivers a devastating assessment: the vessel is damaged beyond any repair that could carry it safely to another island.
