With the Battle of Alubarna raging throughout the capital, the Straw Hat Pirates continue their individual fights against the elite officers of Baroque Works. Sanji faces Bentham, whose mastery of Okama Kenpo and Clone-Clone Fruit powers make him one of the crew's most unpredictable opponents. At the same time, Nami puts Usopp's newly invented Clima-Tact to practical use in her battle against Miss Doublefinger.

Elsewhere, Roronoa Zoro engages Bones Daz in one of the most difficult duels of his career. Forced beyond his physical limits, Zoro recalls the teachings of his childhood mentor as he searches for a way to overcome an opponent whose entire body can transform into steel blades.

Meanwhile, Vivi Nefertari reaches the royal palace in a final attempt to stop the fighting before the kingdom destroys itself. However, Crocodile and Robin Nico, operating as Miss All Sunday, reveal more of Operation Utopia and Crocodile's search for the ancient weapon Pluton, leaving Vivi with little time to prevent disaster.

By the end of the volume, the Straw Hats steadily gain the upper hand as Sanji, Nami, and Roronoa Zoro each overcome their opponents, while the battle for Alabasta itself remains unresolved.
