Synopsis
Following the Golden Age story, Guts roams the land as the Black Swordsman, hunting apostles with his enormous Dragonslayer sword. His solitary campaign changes course when he learns that Casca, the traumatized survivor under his protection, has disappeared, drawing him toward the refugee-filled city of St. Albion and its ominous Tower of Conviction.
The season primarily adapts the Conviction arc of the manga while incorporating selected Black Swordsman material. Guts encounters the Holy Iron Chain Knights, a group led by Farnese, and becomes entangled in a conflict involving religious persecution, pagan cults, restless spirits, and the fanatical inquisitor Mozgus. It marked the franchise’s first television continuation beyond the Golden Age, although its hybrid computer-generated presentation proved highly divisive.
