Luca

Luca is pragmatic without becoming cynical about other people's lives. She understands that women in Albion's refugee camp survive only by relying on one another, and she deliberately suppresses jealousy and competition within her group. Dividing Jerome's pearls equally is characteristic of the way she thinks: individual luxuries matter less than maintaining trust.

Her compassion extends well beyond her immediate circle. Luca takes in Casca despite the considerable danger and inconvenience involved, inventing the name Elaine and using bandages to discourage customers and officials from approaching her.

She is also remarkably brave. Luca repeatedly enters situations that terrify people with far greater physical power, relying on quick thinking and determination rather than combat skill.

Luca is an ordinary human without supernatural powers or formal combat training. Her strengths are courage, social intelligence and an exceptional ability to remain functional during crises.

She is adept at deception when survival requires it. Disguising Casca as a woman suffering from a contagious disease keeps unwanted attention away, while Luca's familiarity with Albion's guards and social structure allows her to negotiate and bribe her way through situations that cannot be solved by force.

Her leadership is perhaps her most important ability. The women around her trust her judgment because she consistently places their collective survival above her own comfort.

Luca shelters Casca after the mentally regressed former Hawk reaches Albion. When Guts arrives searching for Casca, Luca becomes one of the people capable of leading him toward her.

The situation deteriorates after Nina becomes involved with the heretical cult beneath Albion and Casca is drawn into its rituals. Luca repeatedly risks herself to recover both women as the Holy See's inquisitors close in.

When Luca falls from the Tower of Conviction, the Skull Knight unexpectedly catches her and carries her away. She subsequently meets the Egg of the Perfect World and learns something of the being's purpose before returning to the others.

Luca survives Albion's destruction and later reappears in Falconia, where she runs an inn with her companions. Her return provides one of the clearest civilian perspectives on life inside Griffith's new capital.

Casca is taken in and protected by Luca, who calls her Elaine and treats her as another vulnerable member of the group rather than exploiting her helplessness.

Jerome is Luca's customer, ally and romantic interest. Their relationship is affectionate but informal, and Jerome repeatedly risks himself to help her and the other women.

Nina is one of Luca's prostitutes. Luca cares deeply for her despite Nina's fearfulness and selfish decisions, and repeatedly tries to protect her.

Pepe is another woman under Luca's protection and part of the close-knit group she leads.

Guts encounters Luca while searching for Casca, and Luca becomes an important ally in his attempt to recover her.

Skull Knight saves Luca when she falls from the Tower of Conviction and briefly carries her away from the chaos.

Egg of the Perfect World meets Luca after her rescue and explains his role in the supernatural events unfolding at Albion.
