Nina

Nina is fearful, insecure and desperate to escape the misery surrounding her. She is painfully aware of her own cowardice and repeatedly seeks comfort in other people or beliefs that promise temporary relief from fear.

Her behavior can become selfish under pressure. Nina sometimes endangers others to protect herself, then experiences intense guilt when confronted with the consequences.

She is nevertheless capable of affection and remorse. Her relationship with Luca combines dependence, admiration and shame, while her feelings for Joachim survive even after their experiences with the heretics nearly destroy their relationship.

Nina possesses no supernatural abilities and has no combat training.

Her survival depends largely on adaptability, the protection offered by Luca's group and occasional acts of desperate courage. She is physically vulnerable and also suffers from a serious illness.

Nina's importance comes from her perspective as an ordinary person trapped inside Albion's escalating religious and supernatural catastrophe.

Nina secretly attends gatherings of a pagan cult outside Albion. She brings Joachim to one of its ceremonies, exposing him to rituals that horrify him.

When Casca becomes associated with the cult's supernatural expectations, Nina's fear and desperation pull her deeper into the events surrounding the Tower of Conviction.

Nina repeatedly panics when threatened, at one point abandoning or betraying people close to her in attempts to save herself. She later recognizes the harm caused by her cowardice and apologizes to Luca.

After surviving Albion's destruction, Nina leaves with Joachim rather than remaining with Luca's group, choosing to face an uncertain future alongside him.

Luca is Nina's protector and the leader of the prostitutes with whom she lives. Nina admires her courage while feeling painfully inadequate beside her.

Joachim is Nina's lover. Their relationship is severely tested after she brings him to the pagan cult, but they ultimately leave Albion together.

Casca, known around the refugees as Elaine, becomes entangled with Nina through the cult and the events surrounding Albion.

Guts becomes involved in Nina's circumstances while searching for Casca.

Isidro encounters Nina during the struggle around the Tower of Conviction.
