Mozgus

Mozgus is fanatically devout and utterly convinced that his interpretation of divine law is correct. He divides behavior into obedience and sin with almost no room for uncertainty. Torture is therefore not cruelty in his own mind but a sacred duty through which sinners are punished and society is purified.

His fanaticism does not eliminate his capacity for kindness. Mozgus takes in physically deformed outcasts whom society has rejected, assures them that their bodies have purpose under God and gives them positions as his disciples. He displays sincere affection for these followers.

That contradiction defines much of his behavior at Albion. He can provide assistance to a suffering person and then demand brutal penance because he sees mercy and punishment as complementary expressions of the same faith.

Before acquiring supernatural abilities, Mozgus possesses great physical strength and an extraordinary tolerance for pain. He carries a massive scripture book that he can wield as a blunt weapon, while his disciples handle specialized instruments of torture and execution.

The Egg of the Perfect World transforms Mozgus into a pseudo-Apostle. His transformed body develops a hard, scale-like covering and enormous feathered wings, giving him both exceptional protection and flight.

Mozgus can produce intense flames in this state, using his wings and transformed body in attacks that reinforce his belief that he has become an angel carrying out divine judgment. His armor is exceptionally resistant to Guts's attacks, although previously damaged portions provide exploitable weaknesses.

Mozgus travels to Albion after reports of widespread heresy and violence. The Holy Iron Chain Knights provide his escort, bringing Farnese and Serpico into his orbit as the refugee crisis surrounding the Tower of Conviction worsens.

His inquisitions intensify the terror inside Albion. Casca's presence among the refugees becomes associated with the heretics' beliefs, eventually placing her at the center of the religious hysteria surrounding the tower.

After the Egg of the Perfect World transforms Mozgus and his disciples into pseudo-Apostles, Mozgus interprets the transformation as proof of divine favor. He attempts to execute Casca while Guts battles through his transformed disciples. Guts eventually breaks through Mozgus's defenses and kills him during the collapse of Albion's old order.

Guts becomes Mozgus's principal opponent when the swordsman attempts to rescue Casca.

Casca is regarded by Mozgus as a central figure in the heresy consuming Albion and becomes a target of his religious judgment.

Farnese serves within the Holy See forces accompanying Mozgus and witnesses the reality of his methods firsthand.

Serpico accompanies Farnese during the events surrounding Mozgus's arrival.

Egg of the Perfect World transforms Mozgus and his disciples into pseudo-Apostles as part of the supernatural preparations for Albion's Incarnation Ceremony.
