Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew board their trusted ship and travel beneath the sea toward Fish-Man Island. Their route is obstructed by hostile pirates, underwater volcanoes, dangerous ocean currents, and an enormous sea creature dwelling in the depths.
After surviving the hazardous descent, the crew enters the undersea kingdom and begins exploring its remarkable environment. Their arrival soon draws the attention of both the island's royal family and a militant pirate faction operating against it.
The Straw Hat Pirates descend toward Fish-Man Island aboard the coated Thousand Sunny, but the journey quickly becomes dangerous. They encounter the Caribou Pirates, a colossal kraken, deep-sea predators, volcanic activity, and the Flying Pirates. Luffy subdues the kraken and names it Surume, but the crew is separated after forcing its way through the island's protective bubble.
Luffy, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper awaken in Mermaid Cove, where they reunite with Keimi and meet several local mermaids. Sanji's worsening blood loss creates an emergency complicated by the island's prohibition against fish-men and merfolk donating blood to humans. Meanwhile, the princes of the Ryugu Kingdom deliver a message from Jinbe, and the Straw Hats gradually regroup across the island.
The crew's arrival coincides with rising unrest caused by Hody Jones and the New Fish-Man Pirates. Madam Shyarly predicts that Luffy will destroy Fish-Man Island, prompting King Neptune to invite the Straw Hats to Ryugu Palace while secretly planning to detain them. Luffy becomes separated from the others and discovers Princess Shirahoshi inside the isolated Hard-Shell Tower, while the remaining Straw Hats resist the royal guards and seize control of the palace.
