Tired of routine assignments, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno ask to undertake a more demanding mission. Under Kakashi Hatake, Team 7 is assigned to escort a bridge builder named Tazuna safely home to the Land of Waves. What initially appears to be an ordinary protection detail soon proves far more dangerous than its official classification suggests.

When assassins begin targeting their client, the inexperienced genin are drawn into their first genuine life-or-death conflict. Their journey brings them into contact with a feared rogue ninja whose skill forces Kakashi to reveal one of his most formidable abilities, while Naruto and Sasuke must begin translating their training into effective teamwork under pressure.

After passing Kakashi’s survival exercise, Team 7 begins completing low-level village assignments. Naruto’s frustration with the repetitive work prompts the Third Hokage to grant the team a C-rank escort mission protecting Tazuna, a bridge builder returning to the Land of Waves. The mission’s true danger becomes apparent when two hidden assassins attack on the road. Although Kakashi neutralizes them, he determines that Tazuna concealed critical information about the threats against him.

Team 7 continues despite the deception and soon encounters Zabuza Momochi, a notorious missing-nin formerly associated with the Hidden Mist Village. Zabuza’s mastery of silent assassination and the Hidden Mist Jutsu places the young ninja at an immediate disadvantage. Kakashi counters by uncovering his Sharingan, enabling him to anticipate and reproduce his opponent’s techniques.

When Zabuza traps Kakashi inside a Water Prison, Naruto and Sasuke coordinate an improvised attack that forces the swordsman to release him. Kakashi then turns Zabuza’s own techniques against him and appears poised to win, but a masked hunter-nin intervenes and removes the fallen rogue. Recognizing that Zabuza may still be alive, Kakashi prepares Team 7 for the battle likely to come.
