Zabuza Momochi

Zabuza is ruthless, pragmatic, ambitious, and initially dismissive of sentimental attachment. His experience in the Bloody Mist culture teaches him to regard emotion as a liability and useful subordinates as tools.

He is nevertheless capable of restraint and tactical patience. Unlike impulsive killers, Zabuza assesses opponents carefully, retreats when necessary, and adjusts his plans after encountering Kakashi.

His relationship with Haku exposes the limits of his claimed emotional detachment. Zabuza repeatedly describes Haku instrumentally, yet their years together create a connection he is unwilling to acknowledge openly.

Pride also matters deeply to him. Zabuza wants independence and power rather than permanent service to a wealthy criminal such as Gatō, accepting assassination work primarily as a means to finance his larger ambitions.

Zabuza is an elite swordsman capable of wielding Kubikiribōchō, one of the Seven Swordsmen's legendary blades. The sword can regenerate damaged sections using iron harvested from the blood of those it cuts.

His assassination specialty is the Silent Killing Technique, which allows him to locate and eliminate targets while minimizing sound. He becomes particularly dangerous after filling an area with dense mist.

Hidden Mist Technique obscures vision and gives Zabuza an environment suited to silent assassination. By suppressing his presence and relying on sound and killing experience, he can attack before ordinary shinobi identify his position.

He is highly proficient in Water Release, using Water Clone Technique, Water Prison Technique, Water Dragon Bullet Technique, and Great Waterfall Technique.

Zabuza also possesses exceptional physical strength, speed, and durability, allowing him to continue fighting even after sustaining severe injuries.

Zabuza appears during Team 7's escort mission to protect Tazuna. He is hired by Gatō to kill the bridge builder before the bridge can weaken Gatō's economic control of the Land of Waves.

His first battle with Kakashi pushes the newly formed Team 7 into genuine lethal combat. Zabuza traps Kakashi inside Water Prison, forcing Naruto and Sasuke to coordinate their first successful high-risk strategy as teammates.

Haku later intervenes while disguised as a hunter-nin and helps Zabuza escape. The pair recover and launch another attack during the bridge's construction.

Zabuza's second battle with Kakashi coincides with Haku's fight against Naruto and Sasuke. Haku ultimately sacrifices himself to shield Zabuza from Kakashi's Lightning Blade.

Initially refusing to acknowledge grief, Zabuza changes when Naruto angrily condemns him for treating Haku as a disposable tool despite Haku's total devotion. Zabuza admits Haku mattered to him and launches a final attack against Gatō after the employer mocks Haku's death.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Zabuza and Haku are resurrected with Edo Tensei and forced to fight the Allied Shinobi Forces until Kakashi's unit seals them.

Haku is Zabuza's closest companion and apprentice. Zabuza presents Haku as a weapon useful to his ambitions, but his reaction after Haku's sacrifice confirms that the bond had become deeply personal.

Kakashi Hatake is Zabuza's principal opponent in the Land of Waves. Their fights pit Kakashi Hatake's Sharingan-assisted versatility against Zabuza's mist assassination and Water Release.

Gatō hires Zabuza to kill Tazuna. Zabuza has little loyalty toward Gatō and regards the wealthy businessman mainly as a source of money.

Tazuna is Zabuza's assassination target. Protecting Tazuna places Team 7 directly in Zabuza's path.

Naruto Uzumaki becomes important to Zabuza not because of combat ability alone but because Naruto's condemnation forces Zabuza to acknowledge the feelings he had denied toward Haku.
