Personality
Personality
Spitfire is calm, perceptive and rarely rattled by the spectacle surrounding high-level Storm Riders. He prefers to observe before acting, judging riders by what their run reveals rather than simply by formal rank.
He takes mentoring seriously without becoming overbearing. Once he recognizes Kazu's affinity for the Flame Road, he provides information and guidance while allowing Kazu to find his own version of the Road.
Spitfire is also willing to question his alliances. His connection to the original Sleeping Forest gives him a long perspective on the struggle surrounding the Sky Regalia, and he does not allow organizational loyalty to override what he believes is necessary.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Spitfire follows the Flame Road and possesses the Flame Regalia. His extreme speed generates heat through wheel friction, bending light, creating mirages and leaving flame-like trails behind his movement.
The Flame Road's "Time" techniques exploit speed, heat and attacks on vulnerable nerve centers to make opponents unable to respond normally, producing the illusion that the user can manipulate time.
Spitfire can also use Infinity Inferno, the Flame Regalia's Infinity Atmosphere, although its complete effect is never fully demonstrated. With Yasuyoshi Sano, he combines Flame and Time principles through the Apollon Road and St. Elmo's Crossfire.
As a first-generation Gravity Child, Spitfire possesses exceptional spatial perception in addition to his Road-specific speed.
Story Role
Story Role
Spitfire observes Ikki's emergence from very early in the story and gradually becomes one of the experienced Kings monitoring Kogarasumaru's rise. His greater personal interest develops around Kazu, whose speed reveals compatibility with the Flame Road.
He tells Kazu about the deeper history of Air Trecks and the Gravity Children, placing Kogarasumaru's battles within the conflict surrounding the original Sleeping Forest and the Regalia.
Spitfire eventually discovers the extent of Sora and Nike's control over Genesis and moves against them. He and Aeon Clock confront the Takeuchi brothers, using St. Elmo's Crossfire in an attempt to stop their plans.
Spitfire is killed in the confrontation, but he ensures that the Flame Regalia and recorded information survive. His final message is distributed throughout the Storm Rider world, while Kazu inherits the Flame King's legacy and eventually the Regalia itself.
Relationships
Relationships
Kazuma Mikura is the younger rider Spitfire identifies as his natural successor on the Flame Road. Spitfire leaves Kazu the Flame Regalia and the responsibility attached to the Flame King's title.
Yasuyoshi Sano is a fellow Flame Road specialist and former subordinate of Spitfire. The two reunite against Sora and Nike and combine their techniques through St. Elmo's Crossfire.
Ine Makigami was Spitfire's tuner during the original Sleeping Forest era. Their relationship is notably close, although the manga does not definitively establish them as lovers.
Sora Takeuchi was Spitfire's Wind King and teammate in the original Sleeping Forest. Spitfire later opposes Sora after discovering his plans for Genesis and the Sky Regalia.
Kilik, Falko, Dontores, Black Burn and Rika Noyamano are Spitfire's other teammates from the original Sleeping Forest.
Itsuki Minami first attracts Spitfire's attention as an improbably successful novice and later becomes central to the conflict Spitfire is trying to influence.
