Kazuma Mikura

Kazu is reserved, loyal and initially plagued by insecurity. Growing up alongside the more forceful Ikki leaves him accustomed to thinking of himself as a follower. Even after displaying exceptional ability on Air Trecks, he can struggle to accept that others genuinely depend on him.

His temperament makes his development different from Ikki's. Kazu does not naturally seek attention or leadership, and much of his growth requires him to stop measuring his worth exclusively against his best friend. His determination becomes clearest when circumstances force him to act without Ikki setting the direction.

Despite his lack of outward bravado, Kazu can become intensely competitive. His eventual willingness to confront Ikki directly reflects the confidence he has built through his own Road rather than a rejection of their friendship.

Kazu's defining attribute is speed. His background in running gives him excellent acceleration and footwork, and he eventually develops the Flame Road, which exploits friction generated by Air Treck wheels. The resulting heat can be manipulated in several ways rather than serving simply as a direct attack.

Flame Road techniques allow Kazu to distort light through heated air, creating mirage-like effects that conceal his movements. He can generate thermal currents, accelerate with explosive force and combine extreme speed with attacks targeting an opponent's movement. His speed and concealment earn him the alias Stealth.

Spitfire recognizes Kazu's affinity for the Flame Road and becomes instrumental in developing his potential. Kazu also studies techniques associated with Aeon Clock, incorporating the principles behind the latter's "Time" techniques into his own fighting style.

Kazu eventually inherits the Flame Regalia and succeeds Spitfire as the Flame King. His later repertoire includes Flame Road: After Burner, which drives his acceleration to extraordinary levels, alongside increasingly sophisticated applications of heat, friction and movement control.

Kazu enters the Air Treck world largely because Ikki does. He joins Onigiri and Ikki in forming Kogarasumaru and initially occupies the position of a dependable but comparatively unassuming teammate. His emerging speed soon separates him from the others and attracts attention beyond the team.

His encounters with Spitfire give Kazu a path that belongs specifically to him. Rather than remaining Ikki's shadow, he is forced to consider what kind of rider he wants to become and whether he can carry responsibilities independently.

Following Spitfire's death, Kazu inherits both the expectations attached to the Flame Road and the Flame Regalia. His subsequent development into the Flame King makes him one of Kogarasumaru's Kings and turns his old insecurity into a central obstacle he has learned to confront rather than obey.

Itsuki Minami is Kazu's childhood friend, closest companion and long-standing point of comparison. Kazu admires Ikki's natural ability but spends much of the story learning that friendship does not require him to remain permanently in Ikki's shadow.

Onigiri is another childhood friend and founding Kogarasumaru member. Together, the three form the personal core from which the larger team develops.

Spitfire recognizes Kazu's compatibility with the Flame Road and acts as an important mentor. His decision to entrust the Flame Regalia to Kazu establishes Kazu as his successor.

Emily Adachi is a close companion within Kogarasumaru's circle who has romantic feelings for Kazu. Their relationship is ultimately confirmed romantically by the end of the manga.

Issa Mihotoke supports Kazu as a teammate and, when Kazu is required to lead, helps reinforce his confidence rather than undermining him.

Agito Wanijima fights alongside Kazu as one of Kogarasumaru's strongest riders. Their abilities can also be combined, with Kazu's Flame Road adding heat to Agito's Fang-based attacks.
