Personality
Riyan is focused, severe, and fiercely loyal to Ganryū. He treats every assignment as a military operation and reprimands Jai for wasting time taunting Senna rather than capturing her.
He addresses Ganryū as Soul Society’s rightful ruler and becomes angry when others fail to show the same respect. Unlike Jai, Riyan knows when an objective requires retreat and prevents personal grudges from compromising the group’s timetable.

Riyan wields a sword whose blade separates into fan-like sections. He can spin these blades rapidly to intercept attacks, including ice projected from Tōshirō Hitsugaya’s Shikai.
A pack mounted on his back fires volleys of explosive projectiles and black tendrils that detonate when struck. Inside the Valley of Screams, streams of Blanks continuously enter the pack as ammunition, allowing sustained bombardment.
Like the other Dark Ones, Riyan manipulates Blanks and draws upon their spiritual matter. His equipment is dangerous at range but becomes ineffective if the flow of Blanks is interrupted.

Riyan accompanies Jai, Mue, Bau, and Benin to seize Senna. When Ichigo Kurosaki cuts off Jai’s arm, Riyan prevents retaliation and orders the team to withdraw.
During the later ambush on the Gotei 13, he uses explosives to scatter the Shinigami long enough for Ganryū to capture Senna. He subsequently confronts Hitsugaya inside the Valley of Screams.
Hitsugaya activates Daiguren Hyōrinmaru and freezes the Blanks feeding Riyan’s launcher. With his ammunition and defenses immobilized, Riyan is struck by the ice dragon and killed.

Jai, Mue, Bau, and Benin are his fellow Dark Ones. Riyan frequently corrects Jai’s undisciplined behavior.
