Mue is reserved and more tactical than the openly aggressive Jai. He follows Ganryū’s orders without hesitation and retreats when the group’s immediate objective has been achieved.
When confronted by a far stronger opponent, Mue initially tries to create distance. Once escape proves impossible, he commits to a destructive final attack rather than surrender.

Mue’s unusual sword conceals several weapons. Its thick outer blade detaches to reveal a slim golden core divided into multiple segments, each of which can be launched like a small projectile.
The W-shaped guard also separates from the hilt while remaining connected by a cable. Mue channels spiritual power through this line to make the detached guard explode near an opponent.
He is skilled enough to stall Jūshirō Ukitake and later confront Kenpachi Zaraki. His projectile attacks favor misdirection and range, but they lack the force to injure Kenpachi.

Mue observes Senna fighting Blanks and accompanies the Dark Ones during their first attempt to capture her. He retreats when Ichigo Kurosaki intervenes.
During the Gotei 13 ambush, Mue occupies Ukitake until Ganryū secures Senna. He later helps prevent Ichigo from reaching the captive Shinenju inside the Valley of Screams.
Mue’s final opponent is Kenpachi. After Kenpachi catches and returns one of his projectiles, Mue attempts to kill him with the sword guard’s explosion. Kenpachi emerges unharmed and cuts Mue down.
