Bau says little and functions primarily as a disciplined enforcer. He follows Ganryū’s orders, withdraws when an objective has been completed, and concentrates on physically preventing pursuit.
He is confident in his strength and initially assumes that destroying the head of Renji’s Bankai has ended their battle. His surprise when the segmented weapon reconstructs itself creates the opening for his defeat.

Bau carries two enormous club-like weapons resembling tetsubō. Their impacts trigger medium-sized explosions, adding spiritual force to his already powerful swings.
His size and strength allow him to overpower Renji Abarai temporarily and smash the skull of Hihiō Zabimaru. He also moves quickly enough to intercept opponents despite his heavy build.
Bau can manipulate Blanks like the other Dark Ones, using their spiritual substance to augment his combat strength. No named Zanpakutō or release is established for him.

Bau joins the initial attempt to abduct Senna but retreats when Ichigo Kurosaki intervenes. During the later ambush, he fights Renji until Ganryū captures Senna.
Inside the Valley of Screams, Bau and Jai impede Ichigo’s advance. Renji arrives with Rukia Kuchiki and carries Ichigo past them on Hihiō Zabimaru, leaving Bau behind for a rematch.
Bau apparently destroys the Bankai’s skull with an explosive strike. Hihiō Zabimaru reconnects its separated segments, catches the stunned Bau in its jaws, and kills him.
