Senna

Senna is cheerful, restless and intensely curious. She moves quickly from one attraction to another, enjoys festivals and high places, and often answers questions by changing the subject or running off. Her evasiveness partly conceals uncertainty about her own identity.

She is compassionate toward vulnerable souls. When she meets the child Plus Tomoya, Senna insists on finding his father so that his final memory in the Human World will be happy. She also displays courage in combat and resists being treated as an object after learning the truth about herself.

Senna’s confidence falters when her borrowed memories contradict one another. She fears disappearing and wants proof that she existed as an individual, not merely as a temporary container for other people’s experiences.

Senna is a skilled and acrobatic swordfighter who can defeat groups of Blanks in rapid succession. She demonstrates high-speed movement resembling Shunpo and can separate from her temporary physical body at will; the abandoned form scatters into autumn leaves.

Her Zanpakutō is Mirokumaru. Its release command is “Call forth the Twilight,” rendered “Bring them to the Twilight” in the English dub. In Shikai, it becomes a ringed khakkhara with a pointed end. Senna can create and direct powerful tornadoes through it, sweeping away multiple enemies across a wide area.

As the Shinenju, Senna is the condensed repository of the memories shed by the Blanks. This gives her a unique connection to them and allows her to influence their movement. Using that power on a vast scale consumes her own spiritual existence.

Senna appears while Ichigo and Rukia investigate Blanks in the Human World. Her lack of an official history makes Rukia suspicious, but Ichigo defends her and gradually becomes her closest companion. He buys her a red ribbon and helps her explore the memories she believes belong to her former life.

Ganryu and the Dark Ones identify Senna as the Shinenju. Their plan requires placing her at the center of the Valley of Screams so the Blanks will converge, drawing Soul Society and the Human World into a catastrophic collision.

Ganryu captures Senna, but Ichigo and the Gotei 13 enter the Valley and rescue her. After Ganryu’s defeat, Senna commands the Blanks to push the two worlds apart. The effort exhausts her existence, and she fades away after Ichigo takes her to the cemetery from one of her memories. He comforts her by claiming that he found a gravestone bearing her name.

Ichigo Kurosaki becomes Senna’s protector and closest friend. He insists that her feelings make her a real person regardless of how she was created.

Rukia Kuchiki initially questions Senna’s claim to be a Soul Reaper but later recognizes her as an ally and helps defend her from the Dark Ones.

Ganryu regards Senna as the Shinenju needed to complete his revenge. He kidnaps and restrains her in the Valley of Screams.

Tomoya is a young Plus whom Senna helps reunite with his father. His situation reveals her concern for preserving a soul’s final happy memories.
