Noritoshi Kamo

Noritoshi is born as the son of the head of the Kamo clan and the clan head's mistress. Because his mother is not the head's official wife, his position within one of jujutsu society's Three Great Families is initially insecure. That changes when he inherits Blood Manipulation, the prestigious technique passed down through the Kamo line.

The clan brings Noritoshi into its main family when he is six years old and begins preparing him as an heir. His value to the family is therefore tied directly to the technique he possesses rather than simply to being the clan head's son. Official supplementary material identifies family lineage as his route into Jujutsu High.

Noritoshi's mother is driven away from the clan environment, leaving him behind. Rather than interpreting her departure as abandonment, he eventually understands that her decision was intended to protect him from the stigma attached to being the child of a mistress. His ambition to become clan head develops largely from the belief that attaining authority will allow him to welcome her back and give her a secure position.

Noritoshi is serious, disciplined, formal, and highly conscious of responsibility. He tends to think in terms of obligations created by family position, inherited ability, and the expectations placed upon sorcerers. This initially makes him appear more conservative than many students his age.

His personality is shaped by having learned very early that his position inside the Kamo clan is conditional. Being talented is not merely a source of pride; it is the means by which he can retain influence and eventually achieve something for his mother. That produces an unusual willingness to shoulder duties that he does not necessarily enjoy.

Noritoshi is also studious outside jujutsu. Official fanbook material lists studying as his hobby and notes that he is aiming for a TOEIC score of 900. His seriousness does not prevent him from caring about his classmates. During genuine emergencies, Noritoshi stops treating Tokyo students as rivals and works with them readily. He can criticize questionable decisions while still respecting another person's determination once he understands it.

Later experiences make him less rigid about the value of clan status. Losing his position within the Kamo family forces him to confront how much of his life had been organized around earning approval from an institution that could discard him as soon as circumstances changed.

Noritoshi is slightly taller than Megumi Fushiguro, whose official height is 175 cm, placing Noritoshi a little above that mark. Supplementary material deliberately describes him comparatively rather than assigning a precise measurement.

He has straight black hair and narrow grey eyes. During his introduction, he wears his hair styled upward and away from his forehead in a formal, carefully controlled appearance that reflects his upbringing within the Kamo clan.

His standard Kyoto Jujutsu High uniform consists of a dark school outfit modified for combat. He commonly carries a traditional bow and a supply of arrows, equipment that complements Blood Manipulation rather than replacing it.

His visual design changes later in the manga. After separating more decisively from the Kamo clan's expectations, Noritoshi allows his hair to fall more naturally instead of maintaining the rigid style associated with his earlier appearance.

Gege Akutami has commented in supplementary material that an early attempt to draw Noritoshi was compared by readers to a member of KISS, despite Akutami originally having a different comedic reference in mind.

Noritoshi is a semi-grade 1 sorcerer and one of the most technically accomplished students at Kyoto Jujutsu High. His strength comes from disciplined use of Blood Manipulation rather than overwhelming cursed-energy reserves.

Blood Manipulation is one of the Kamo clan's prized hereditary techniques. It grants control over the user's blood both inside and outside the body, allowing the sorcerer to alter its shape, flow, pressure, trajectory, and other physical properties.

As a human Blood Manipulation user, Noritoshi must treat blood loss as a real physiological limitation. Unlike Chousou, whose Death Painting body can convert cursed energy into blood, Noritoshi cannot replenish lost blood freely. He compensates by carrying prepared blood packs into battle.

That limitation makes his fighting style methodical. Noritoshi avoids wasting blood and uses several techniques in combination so that the same resource can serve multiple purposes. Blood can reinforce his own body, restrain an enemy, redirect arrows, or become an extremely high-speed projectile.

He is also an accomplished archer. Noritoshi dips arrowheads in his own blood, allowing Blood Manipulation to affect their trajectories after release. This lets him pressure opponents from long range without spending large quantities of blood on every attack.

His close-range physical abilities are enhanced through Flowing Red Scale. By controlling his body's internal circulation, Noritoshi can improve physical performance and keep pace with enemies who would otherwise exceed him athletically.

During the Sakurajima Colony battle, Noritoshi pushes Blood Manipulation much harder than before, accepting significant blood loss because he believes he may have little remaining future to preserve. His performance against cursed Naoya demonstrates how much more dangerous the technique becomes when he abandons his earlier caution.

• Flowing Red Scale — Manipulates the user's internal blood circulation, pulse, body temperature, and related processes to improve physical performance.

• Flowing Red Scale: Stack — A heightened application of Flowing Red Scale that further boosts physical capabilities by intensifying the underlying blood manipulation.

Noritoshi can also manipulate blood attached to his arrows after firing them. This is not presented as a separately named technique, but it is one of his most characteristic practical applications of Blood Manipulation.

Noritoshi Kamo's Mother is the most important person behind Noritoshi's original ambition. He becomes the Kamo heir partly because he believes achieving enough authority will allow him to provide her with a place inside the family. He later learns that she has remarried, built another family, and never stopped caring about him, forcing him to reconsider the belief that her happiness depended on his success within the Kamo clan.

Megumi Fushiguro becomes Noritoshi's principal opponent during the Kyoto Goodwill Event. Because Megumi possesses the Zenin clan's Ten Shadows Technique while living outside that clan, Noritoshi initially assumes they share similar responsibilities toward their families. Megumi rejects that premise, exposing the difference between Noritoshi's obligation-centered worldview and Megumi's insistence on choosing whom he personally wants to save.

Aoi Toudou is Noritoshi's Kyoto classmate and one of the people he finds most difficult to deal with. Official fanbook material lists Toudou as a source of stress for him.

Kasumi Miwa, Momo Nishimiya, Mai Zenin, and Koukichi Muta are his fellow Kyoto students. Noritoshi often operates as one of the more serious senior figures within the group, particularly when Toudou refuses to follow conventional plans.

Utahime Iori is one of Noritoshi's instructors at Kyoto Jujutsu High. Her more responsible approach to student welfare contrasts with the harsher decisions made by the school's conservative leadership.

Yoshinobu Gakuganji is Noritoshi's principal and one of the senior authorities responsible for directing Kyoto's students during the Goodwill Event.

Maki Zenin becomes Noritoshi's closest battlefield ally during the Sakurajima Colony conflict. Despite coming from different Great Families with radically different experiences of those institutions, they fight together against cursed Naoya, and Noritoshi repeatedly risks severe blood loss to support her.

Naoya Zenin becomes Noritoshi's principal enemy during Sakurajima. His vengeful cursed-spirit form forces Noritoshi to push Blood Manipulation far beyond the conservative style he previously used.

Kenjaku has an exceptionally disturbing connection to the Kamo name. More than 150 years earlier, Kenjaku possessed the body of another man named Noritoshi Kamo and used it to conduct the experiments that created the Death Paintings. Kenjaku later infiltrates the modern Kamo clan and removes the younger Noritoshi from his position as heir.

Chousou uses Blood Manipulation because of his connection to the historical Noritoshi Kamo body used by Kenjaku during the Death Painting experiments. His inhuman physiology demonstrates applications of their shared technique that the modern Noritoshi cannot reproduce safely.

There is no canonical romantic partner or confirmed love interest for Noritoshi.

Noritoshi first becomes prominent during the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event. As one of Kyoto's senior students, he participates in the plan ordered by the school's leadership to eliminate Yuuji before Sukuna can become a greater danger.

His principal match is against Megumi. Both rely on inherited techniques associated with the Three Great Families, making their confrontation as much ideological as physical. Noritoshi argues that people born with important family abilities carry obligations toward those families, while Megumi refuses to accept a life determined purely by lineage.

The battle demonstrates Noritoshi's versatility. He uses arrows modified through Blood Manipulation, Flowing Red Scale to improve his physical abilities, and several blood-based attacks while attempting to understand the mechanics of Megumi's Ten Shadows Technique.

The match is interrupted when Hanami invades the event. Noritoshi immediately shifts from rival to ally, fighting alongside Megumi and Toge Inumaki against a special-grade cursed spirit. His willingness to cooperate illustrates that the earlier attempt on Yuuji's life came from institutional duty rather than a personal vendetta.

Noritoshi later participates in the Kyoto reinforcements arriving during the final stages of the Shibuya Incident. Alongside Miwa, Momo, and others, he confronts Kenjaku's group after Gojou has been sealed.

Following Shibuya, Noritoshi returns to the Kamo clan expecting to use its resources, only to discover that Kenjaku has already taken control of its political leadership. Shino, an elderly clan member, does not even recognize him as heir and instead identifies Kenjaku under the historical Noritoshi Kamo name as the clan head.

Kenjaku informs him that he is no longer politically useful enough even to bother killing. Noritoshi leaves the clan, effectively losing the position around which he had organized his childhood and education.

He later enters Sakurajima Colony with Maki and encounters Naoya Zenin's vengeful cursed-spirit form. Noritoshi fights beyond his ordinary limits, uses his own blood much more recklessly, and prepares to sacrifice himself if doing so will give Maki an opening.

After Maki's further awakening allows her to defeat Naoya, Noritoshi eventually reunites with his mother. He learns that she has remarried and had another child, and that the name she gave that child reflects her continued memory of Noritoshi. The reunion helps free him from the belief that becoming Kamo clan head was the only way to repay or protect her.

Noritoshi begins with a rigid understanding of duty. He believes people blessed with powerful inherited techniques owe something to the families and institutions that gave them status, even when those institutions are deeply flawed.

That attitude is understandable in the context of his childhood. Noritoshi does not pursue the Kamo leadership because he loves hierarchy for its own sake; he believes hierarchy is the mechanism through which he can repair what happened to his mother. His obedience is therefore rooted in affection translated into ambition.

Megumi provides an early challenge to that worldview. Both young men have relationships to the Three Great Families that could easily define their lives, but Megumi simply refuses to allow the Zenin clan to determine whom he values or what kind of person he becomes.

Noritoshi does not immediately abandon his own path because of that confrontation, but later events force a much harsher reconsideration. Kenjaku's takeover demonstrates that the political position Noritoshi spent years preparing for can disappear almost instantly. The clan he believed he needed to master simply replaces him when someone more useful arrives.

Sakurajima then strips his priorities down further. Believing he has failed as an heir and may die without accomplishing anything for his mother, Noritoshi stops treating his own survival as a precious political resource. His willingness to bleed himself nearly dry for Maki marks a dramatic break from the cautious, future-oriented student seen at the Goodwill Event.

His later reunion with his mother provides a quieter resolution. She did not need him to conquer the Kamo clan in order to live a meaningful life, and she never interpreted his inability to rescue her as failure. Noritoshi is consequently allowed to exist as a son and individual rather than merely as a prospective clan head.

Noritoshi's surname Kamo is written 加茂. 加 can carry meanings associated with adding or increasing, while 茂 can refer to luxuriant or thick growth. Supplementary reference material identifies these readings when discussing his name.

His given name Noritoshi is written 憲紀. 憲 can refer to law, constitution, or regulation, while 紀 can refer to a chronicle, account, or record. The formal associations of the characters fit his disciplined presentation, though canon does not explicitly state that the name was chosen as a symbolic description of his personality.

The name has additional significance within the story because Noritoshi shares it with an infamous historical member of the Kamo family from more than 150 years earlier. That historical Noritoshi Kamo was actually being controlled by Kenjaku during the period in which the Death Painting experiments were conducted.

This repetition initially leaves the modern Noritoshi carrying a name associated with one of jujutsu history's most notorious sorcerers despite having no responsibility for those crimes.

Noritoshi has consistently appeared in all four major Weekly Shonen Jump Jujutsu Kaisen character popularity polls. He placed 22nd in the first poll with 1,165 votes, 16th in the second with 489 votes, and 16th again in the third with 338 votes.

In the fourth poll, he ranked 25th with 363 votes. Although his ranking declined after the cast expanded significantly, he remained within the top twenty-five across all four polls.

His popularity has generally been tied to the Kyoto student ensemble, his Blood Manipulation fighting style, and the contrast between his formal heir persona and the more vulnerable family motivations revealed later.

The Sakurajima Colony material also broadened his role beyond the Goodwill Event-era supporting cast. His partnership with Maki and the resolution of his relationship with his mother gave him substantially more individual development than his early appearance as Kyoto's duty-bound Kamo heir suggested.
