Background
Background
Megumi is born into circumstances shaped by the Zenin clan's hereditary techniques. His father, Toji Fushiguro, was born a Zenin but left the family, while Megumi inherits the clan's prized Ten Shadows Technique. His biological mother dies when he is very young, and the adults responsible for Megumi and Tsumiki later disappear.
Toji arranges for the Zenin clan to acquire his son because of the inherited technique. Before that transfer can define Megumi's life, Satoru Gojo finds him, explains the arrangement and prevents it from proceeding. Gojo becomes a benefactor, teacher and informal guardian, although the story never presents him as Megumi's adoptive father.
Megumi grows up beside Tsumiki, whose instinctive kindness becomes his standard for judging other people. When a curse leaves her incapacitated, he commits himself more deeply to jujutsu and to the belief that good people should receive a fair chance at happiness. This motive is personal rather than universal; he openly rejects the idea that every life must be weighed equally.
He enrolls at Tokyo Jujutsu High as a Grade 2 sorcerer, an unusually advanced rank for a first-year. Prior instruction and his inherited technique allow him to work alone before his classmates have comparable experience. His formal education refines weapon use, close combat and tactical control of the shadows he had already begun summoning.
Personality
Personality
Megumi is quiet, serious and impatient with theatrics. He rarely volunteers personal information and often answers exuberance with a flat expression. His reserve is not indifference: he watches other people closely, notices danger early and acts quickly when someone he values is threatened.
His moral reasoning is selective. Rather than claiming that saving lives is an impartial duty, he chooses to protect people he considers good and accepts that this judgment may be unfair. That position makes him willing to ask for mercy in one case while using lethal force in another.
Self-sacrifice is his most persistent weakness. When cornered, Megumi repeatedly considers a technique that would destroy him along with his opponent. Gojo challenges this habit by distinguishing a willingness to risk death from an intention to die, forcing Megumi to imagine victory instead of treating his own life as expendable.
Competition and responsibility gradually draw out greater assertiveness. He can be blunt with allies, skeptical of authority and ruthless toward an enemy who exploits civilians. Beneath that severity, embarrassment and dry reactions reveal a teenager uncomfortable with praise, romance and emotional attention.
Appearance
Appearance

Megumi is a slim, athletic teenager with pale skin, sharp green eyes in the anime palette and black hair that forms long, uneven spikes around his head. Animated highlights sometimes give the hair a dark blue or navy cast, but official profile descriptions identify it as black. His usual expression is composed and observant.
His Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform consists of a dark high-collared jacket, matching trousers and brown ankle boots. The raised collar and clean silhouette differ from the customized uniforms worn by several classmates. He carries no permanent external weapon because smaller cursed tools can be stored within his shadows.
Combat places greater emphasis on his hands than on decorative equipment. The Ten Shadows Technique requires recognizable hand signs, and Megumi forms silhouettes that resemble the animals he summons. This visual connection makes the act of shaping a shadow part of both his fighting posture and character design.
Flashbacks show him with the same unruly hair and guarded expression at a younger age. Battle damage accumulates realistically across longer encounters, particularly when he maintains multiple summons or an incomplete domain. His restrained design contrasts with the scale and variety of the creatures emerging around him.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Megumi possesses strong tactical intelligence, refined cursed-energy control and broad combat training. He analyzes unfamiliar techniques during battle, uses terrain as part of his plans and coordinates several shikigami without reducing them to isolated attacks. Entering school at Grade 2 reflects demonstrated competence rather than potential alone.
The Ten Shadows Technique uses shadows as an intermediary for summoning up to ten types of shikigami. A user begins with the twin Divine Dogs and must defeat other familiars in exorcism rituals before controlling them. If a base shikigami is completely destroyed, it cannot be summoned again, but its power may pass to another compatible familiar.
Shadows also function as storage and movement space. Megumi hides cursed tools within them, conceals himself or an ally and attacks from unexpected angles. Stored weight still burdens him, preventing the shadow from acting as unlimited, consequence-free inventory.
He is capable with hand-to-hand combat, tonfa, swords and other cursed tools after training with Gojo and Maki Zenin. Cursed-energy reinforcement improves his durability and striking power, although he is not a physical specialist on Maki's level. In the material adapted through the first half of the Culling Game, he has not demonstrated Reverse Cursed Technique, Black Flash, Simple Domain or Domain Amplification.
His Domain Expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden, remains incomplete. Within an enclosed structure it spreads liquid-like shadow across the floor, supports multiple manifestations and decoys, and lets him move through the shadow field. Because he has not completed a self-contained barrier, the domain lacks a confirmed guaranteed-hit effect and relies on surrounding architecture as its boundary.
Named Techniques
Named Techniques
Divine Dogs are the technique's starting pair, used for tracking, detecting curses and close-range attacks. After the white dog is destroyed, its power is inherited by the black dog as Divine Dog: Totality, producing a larger familiar capable of injuring powerful curses.
Nue, Great Serpent and Toad provide mobility and restraint. Nue is a winged shikigami that carries people and releases electrically charged attacks; Great Serpent erupts from shadow to seize a target; Toad catches or rescues people with its long tongue. The Well's Unknown Abyss combines Nue and Toad into numerous winged toads without permanently fusing the originals.
Max Elephant manifests a heavy elephant that crushes targets and releases a large volume of water, though its cursed-energy cost initially limits simultaneous use. Rabbit Escape fills an area with a swarm of rabbits, obscuring sight and creating opportunities to withdraw or reposition.
Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is the technique's strongest shikigami. It adapts to phenomena after exposure and carries the positive-energy Sword of Extermination. Megumi invokes its exorcism ritual as a desperate last resort but never subjugates it, so it is not one of his controlled summons.
The complete Ten Shadows roster also includes Round Deer, Piercing Ox and Tiger Funeral. These three are revealed through another user controlling Megumi's technique rather than through Megumi's own summons: the deer heals with positive energy, the ox grows stronger across a straight charge, and the tiger's individual ability remains undisclosed. Chimera Shadow Garden is his named Domain Expansion, creating a shadow-saturated environment that amplifies the technique without completing a closed barrier.
Relationships
Relationships
Tsumiki Fushiguro is Megumi's older stepsister, moral reference point and closest family bond. Tsumiki Fushiguro treats others kindly even when kindness brings her no advantage, and Megumi builds his selective idea of justice around wanting someone like her to be rewarded. Her body is later overwritten by an incarnated sorcerer, and her death through Megumi's possessed body destroys his will to resist.
Yuji Itadori is Megumi's closest peer and reciprocal rescuer. Megumi first asks that Yuji Itadori be spared, accepting responsibility for a dangerous personal choice, while Yuji Itadori later refuses to abandon him. Nobara Kugisaki completes their first-year team; Megumi trusts Nobara Kugisaki's strength despite their frequent irritation with one another. She ultimately contributes to his rescue by attacking the enemy's final relic.
Satoru Gojo prevents Megumi's sale to the Zenin clan, supports him financially and teaches him to pursue victory rather than planned self-destruction. Satoru Gojo recognizes the exceptional history of Ten Shadows without guaranteeing that talent will mature. Toji Fushiguro, Megumi's biological father, abandons him and treats his technique as something saleable; Toji Fushiguro nevertheless ends their Shibuya clash after learning that his son retained the Fushiguro name.
Ryomen Sukuna takes an early interest in Megumi's technique and his willingness to summon an uncontrollable trump card. That interest develops into a calculated threat rather than mentorship. The ancient sorcerer takes Megumi's body, suppresses his soul and weaponizes Ten Shadows against the people central to his life; Megumi eventually rejects coexistence and helps resist from within.
Maki Zenin helps train Megumi in weapons and shares his estrangement from Zenin clan values. Reggie Star becomes his major tactical opponent in Tokyo No. 1 Colony, forcing Megumi to expose the limits of his domain before Megumi kills him. Hana Kurusu later approaches him as an ally, and she is revealed to have loved him since his Divine Dog rescued her during childhood, though he never confirms romantic reciprocation.
Story Role
Story Role
Megumi begins the story by searching for a cursed object at Yuji's school. When Yuji becomes Sukuna's vessel, Megumi rejects a purely procedural execution and asks Gojo to preserve his life. The choice establishes the conflict between institutional rules and Megumi's personal judgment.
Early missions expose both his ability and his fatalism. At the detention center he confronts Sukuna despite the mismatch in strength, while the Kyoto exchange event develops his tactical combinations. During the Yasohachi Bridge investigation connected to Tsumiki, he abandons a plan for mutual destruction and manifests Chimera Shadow Garden for the first time.
In Shibuya he supports several overlapping battles: breaking a curtain, opening an escape route from a hostile domain and surviving an encounter with his reincarnated father. After being wounded again, he begins Mahoraga's ritual, drawing Sukuna into a battle that devastates the surrounding district. The incident confirms why Sukuna has monitored his potential.
