Akane-banashi Vol. 18

After returning to Japan as a futatsume, Akane seeks Shomei’s instruction in “God of Death,” one of the stories associated with Shiguma’s Art. Shomei rejects her because her instinctive reliance on audience approval conflicts with his austere philosophy. To demonstrate her worth, Akane enters the Zuiun Prize, where victory could compel him to reconsider.

Issho intensifies the challenge by forbidding Akane from using laughter as her measure of success. She must instead control the room through tension, atmosphere, and narrative authority. The competition reunites her with ambitious peers, including Hikaru Koragi and Karashi Nerimaya, while forcing Akane to reconsider the habits that once defined her greatest strength.
