Shuuichi Akai

Akai is calm, stoic, patient, and intensely observant. He rarely displays panic even when operations collapse around him and often withholds details of his plans until revealing them becomes necessary.

His apparent emotional distance can obscure strong personal attachments. Akai accepts substantial personal risk when protecting allies and carries guilt over failures connected to his work.

He is also comfortable gambling on complicated strategies. His confidence comes from careful preparation rather than recklessness, and he frequently anticipates how both allies and enemies will respond several moves ahead.

Akai is one of the series' finest snipers. He can make extraordinarily difficult long-distance shots and calculate trajectories under conditions that would defeat ordinary marksmen.

He is also a skilled investigator, driver, undercover operative, and hand-to-hand combatant. His infiltration abilities allowed him to function inside the Black Organization for an extended period.

Akai's strategic thinking rivals his marksmanship. He can construct elaborate operations around incomplete information and works effectively with Conan Edogawa, whose intelligence he recognizes very early.

Akai first appears as a mysterious man whose movements around Ran and Conan make his allegiance unclear. His connection to Jodie and the FBI gradually establishes him as part of the investigation targeting the Black Organization.

Akai previously infiltrated the Organization under the alias Dai Moroboshi and received the codename Rye. His relationship with Akemi Miyano helped him gain access to the syndicate, but his FBI identity was exposed before the operation could reach its intended target.

After being apparently killed during the clash surrounding Kir, Akai survives through a plan constructed with Conan and secretly adopts the identity Subaru Okiya. He lives in the Kudo residence while concealing his survival from the Organization.

Conan Edogawa becomes one of Akai's most important collaborators. Akai recognizes Conan Edogawa's intelligence and trusts him with exceptionally dangerous plans.

Jodie Starling is Akai's FBI colleague and former girlfriend.

James Black is Akai's superior within the FBI and places considerable trust in his abilities.

Akemi Miyano was Akai's girlfriend while he infiltrated the Black Organization. Although the relationship initially helped his undercover mission, his feelings for her became genuine.

Mary is Akai's mother, while Shukichi Haneda and Masumi Sera are his younger siblings.

Gin regards Akai as an exceptionally dangerous opponent. Akai's former Organization codename was Rye, and his infiltration made him one of the syndicate's most significant enemies.
