Conan Edogawa

Conan is intensely curious, analytical, confident in his reasoning, and almost incapable of ignoring an unexplained crime. He values evidence over assumptions and regularly reconstructs complicated cases from small physical inconsistencies that other investigators overlook. That confidence can become arrogance, particularly when he is certain that his deduction is correct.

He nevertheless possesses a strong moral sense. Conan believes that solving a murder means exposing the truth, not humiliating the culprit, and he rejects the idea that a detective should deliberately drive a criminal to suicide. His pursuit of truth is therefore paired with a desire to preserve life whenever possible.

His child identity forces him to develop patience and improvisational skills that Shinichi rarely needed. Adults often dismiss his observations because of his apparent age, so he learns to guide investigators toward evidence indirectly or use inventions supplied by Hiroshi Agasa to solve cases without exposing himself.

Conan's primary strength is deductive reasoning. He has extensive knowledge of criminology, forensic principles, literature, codes, geography, and numerous specialized subjects, while his observational ability lets him notice details ranging from altered crime scenes to unconscious habits in a suspect's behavior. He frequently reaches the solution to cases before professional investigators.

His physically reduced body prevents him from reproducing all of Shinichi's athletic capabilities, but his coordination remains excellent. He is particularly skilled at football and uses Agasa's Power-Enhancing Kick Shoes to launch objects with enough force to incapacitate criminals. His equipment also includes the Stun-Gun Wristwatch, Voice-Changing Bowtie, Criminal Tracking Glasses, Detective Boys Badge, Turbo Engine Skateboard, and other inventions.

APTX 4869 has reduced his body to that of an elementary-school child without reducing his intelligence or memories. Certain substances and experimental antidotes can temporarily restore Shinichi's original body, but these reversions are unstable and cannot provide a permanent solution.

Shinichi's transformation establishes the central premise of the series. After witnessing a suspicious transaction involving the Black Organization, he is attacked by Gin and forced to ingest APTX 4869. The drug shrinks him, and Agasa warns that revealing his survival could endanger everyone around him. Shinichi therefore invents Conan Edogawa and moves into the Mouri household.

Living above Kogoro's detective agency gives Conan access to a steady stream of criminal investigations. Because he cannot openly solve cases as Shinichi, he frequently tranquilizes Kogoro and imitates his voice, creating the public phenomenon known as "Sleeping Kogoro."

His search for information about the Black Organization gradually brings him into contact with Ai Haibara, FBI agents, undercover operatives, and other people connected to the syndicate. Haibara is actually Shiho Miyano, the scientist who developed APTX 4869, making her both a fellow victim of the drug's shrinking effect and Conan's most important ally in understanding it.

Ran Mouri is Conan's childhood friend and romantic interest from his life as Shinichi. While living with her as Conan, he must hide his identity despite remaining emotionally attached to her and repeatedly placing himself in danger to protect her.

Kogoro Mouri provides Conan with a home and, unknowingly, a public identity through which many of Conan's deductions are presented. Conan regularly tranquilizes Kogoro Mouri and imitates his voice to solve cases.

Hiroshi Agasa is one of the first people to learn Conan's true identity and supplies the inventions that compensate for his smaller body.

Ai Haibara becomes Conan's closest partner in matters concerning the Black Organization. As Shiho Miyano, she created APTX 4869 and later underwent the same shrinking phenomenon.

Heiji Hattori is Conan's friend, fellow high-school detective, and occasional deductive rival. He discovers Conan's identity as Shinichi and becomes one of the people who actively helps preserve the secret.

Sonoko Suzuki is one of Conan's regular companions through Ran. When Kogoro is unavailable, Conan occasionally uses Sonoko Suzuki as the apparent detective behind his deductions.

Gin is the Black Organization operative whose attack and administration of APTX 4869 cause Shinichi's transformation.
