Satoru Gojou

五条悟

Story Role

Gojou enters the main story as the sorcerer responsible for handling the crisis surrounding one of Sukuna's fingers. After Yuuji becomes Sukuna's vessel, Gojou demonstrates the enormous difference between ordinary jujutsu combat and his own level by briefly fighting the newly manifested curse king without visible concern.

He then becomes Yuuji's teacher and political protector. Rather than accepting the jujutsu leadership's order for immediate execution, Gojou proposes postponing it while Yuuji collects Sukuna's remaining fingers. The arrangement gives Gojou an opportunity to educate another talented young sorcerer while simultaneously undermining a decision made by authorities he already distrusts.

His presence repeatedly shapes enemy strategy. Jougo learns firsthand that direct confrontation with Gojou is disastrous when Gojou introduces Yuuji to Domain Expansion by using the curse as a live demonstration. During the Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event, hostile barriers are specifically designed to keep Gojou away while enemy curse users attack students.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 places him in the role of Yuuta's teacher during the events preceding the main series. He recognizes Yuuta's potential, protects him from the jujutsu establishment's execution order, and confronts Getou's Night Parade of a Hundred Demons as part of the defense of Tokyo and Kyoto.

The Hidden Inventory period later explains how the adult Gojou developed. His escort mission with Getou transforms both of them, but in opposite directions. Gojou emerges from the experience with a vastly improved Limitless and a clearer understanding that simply being stronger than everyone else cannot prevent every tragedy. Getou moves toward a radical ideology that ultimately places the two former friends on opposing sides.

During the Shibuya Incident, the enemy coalition builds its entire operation around neutralizing him. Gojou enters the underground station alone because the presence of civilians makes deploying unrestricted force nearly impossible.

He fights Jougo, Hanami, Chousou, and large numbers of transfigured humans while deliberately limiting collateral damage. His 0.2-second Unlimited Void allows him to immobilize the station long enough to eliminate the transfigured humans in minutes.

Kenjaku then confronts Gojou while using Getou's body, creating the brief psychological opening required for the Prison Realm to activate. Gojou is sealed, and his removal immediately destabilizes the political and military balance of jujutsu society.

The currently adapted Culling Game storyline continues largely in a world dealing with that absence. The anime's official character materials explicitly frame several post-Shibuya developments around the fact that Gojou is no longer available as Yuuji's protector.

Later in the manga, his allies successfully release him from the Prison Realm. Gojou immediately re-enters the conflict and sets December 24 for his confrontation with Sukuna. Their battle in Shinjuku develops into the most technically advanced sorcerer duel in the series.

Gojou repeatedly survives apparently decisive setbacks, clashes domains with Sukuna, battles Mahoraga's adaptation and Agito, and ultimately destroys Mahoraga with Hollow Purple. Sukuna nevertheless discovers a way to reproduce Mahoraga's adaptation to Infinity by extending the target of his slash to space itself, cutting Gojou down after their battle.

Gojou's preparations continue influencing the final conflict after his defeat. His students and allies enter the fight according to layered contingency plans developed around the possibility that even he might not defeat Sukuna.
